THE Tampines Central Community Centre (CC) has come under fire from irate netizens, after a photograph of a national flag hung upside down outside its premises was posted online.

The flag was among others hoisted correctly on metal poles outside the premises in Tampines Street 83.

Mr Christopher Chia, who waited in the CC's office last Saturday, while his daughter attended ballet class, snapped the photo and posted it on citizen-journalism website Stomp.

Mr Chia, 43, a sales manager, said: "A man went into the CC's office to notify the staff that the flag was upside down. He was pretty peeved, and demanded that the issue be attended to immediately."

He added that the staff member confirmed that the flag was upside down, before getting the caretaker who raised it to rectify the mistake.

Netizen pyjstein said: "Flying flags upside down is an internationally recognised signal of distress."

In a statement to my paper, the People's Association (PA) confirmed that the incident took place last Saturday.

A PA spokesman said: "The Singapore flag should be treated with utmost respect at all times." <!-- Start For Web Only -->

This is Tony Tan's election banner over Singapore flag.

Choose between Tony Tan or Singapore.   hahahahha

    • Upside down Singapore flag , bad omen!   Is that telling us something?

and it is hung at the premises of Tampines CC  , ironical indeed.

    • Actually I do not think it is upside down. I think it has merely been covered by the other poster.

Ok well, I thought it was the picture below.

However I do not think that people need not be angry as such a mistake can be rectified.

    • My house nearby got one hang upside down.

Tony Tan is too much for blocking the national flag.

And nowadays National day, there’s a lot of RC flags, it’s NDP or RC day.

I think if PAP continues the relentless immigration, sooner or later the Norway iccident might happen here. Or the rise of right wing political parties in Europe might happen in Singapore. Two possible scenarios. Luckily Singapore harder to get guns compared to USA and european countries.

The PAP govt is not afraid of such happening.  They are over confident it is impossible to happen here afterall the Singaporeans are so kiasu kiasee kiachenghu.

7x extra is actually pretty lenient.

Once during CO parade, the flag bearers screwed up big time. They put the national flag on the right flagpole instead of the central flagpole.

My CO gathered all of the flag bearers and threatened them with DB. In the end, he decided to go easy on them..... by giving them 21x extra.

Mine is regular personnel screw up....must be more lenient........not only for face, but for morale within the family.

Wasn't one of our Serve and F-off personnel.

7x weekend is quite jialat for them.teeth.png

Its actually quite easy to make that mistake when you are tired. I once hooked the flag up wrongly. Thanfully, out of habit, I made a last minute check when they called out "1 minute to colours"....and HORRORS, the flag was hooked upside down. And I fumbled to correct it and sweat buckets.teeth.png

But the worst incident I had was when the c*cksters painted the flagpole and then hauled up the flag before the paint dried. And when it was sunset, I found that the flag could not be lowered and my flag was left waving merrily past 7 30pm till 3 of us managed to prise the string out of the solidified paint. Much to the horror of the conducting officer.teeth.png

    • How long has the flag been up side down before it was spotted?

Do CCs raise and lower the flag daily, such that it is only the day's mistake.

One month has four weeks. So 21x extra is just over five months.

As harsh as that was, it was either that or three weeks of DB.

    • Tan Jee Say cannot be another Ong Teng Cheong. No way.

TJS is not from the PAP as OTC was, and TJS has no respect for the Office of the Presidency, as OTC has. TJS made the PE an extension of the GE.

Please do not insult the late OTC.

Is there an issue that TJS is not from PAP?
