So what do you guys and gals think of the chingay this year? To be honest, I am rather disappointed by the floats. Although it is the largest number of floats ever showcased, some of the floats are hideous "floating" objects adorned with BIG sponsor logos. No theme...just a rojak of motifs with light-boxes splashed with logos. Worse still, some have badly-dressed "models" who just stand on the floats like robots that wave their mechanical arms.
Soooooo commercialised, and a BIG "rojak".
However, I must say the costumes for some segments are quite nice, but the ugly floats often spoils the whole performing contingent. No westerners came to perform this year as well...I think the organisers are making it into an Asian affair.
An "Asian" affair that has samba dancers, turkey belly dancers, and Venice-inspired masks. I think the organisers are confused. To get the biggest number of floats ever, and to make it a "grand" affair, they probably just ask..."Any company that can fork out XX,XXX dollars can have a float of their own...complete with cardboard Fann Wong, Zoe Tay and Kym Ng."
Wahaha!
I pity the cleaners that need to clean up the massive mess after the parade. They might as well have the road cleaners and vehicles form the last contingent of Chingay.
