yea, i think AJC not good at instilling loyalty in their students. So much so that their students have to come to a public forum to shame their school.
Also, i believe if you're having exam, it's definately better to be looking at a digital clock rather than an analogue one.
I don't know about you people, but i put my school above my country. Because i feel more proud about my school than this ****** country. -
He felt "cheated" that they aren't able to choose what is the most appropiate gift.
After all, it's a Chinese taboo. -
maybe the council should have let the students vote from a list of gifts?
Because even if the student is not willing to contribute, the council can show him the vote he cast.

The clock would have been useful if it was installed in the 1980s or even earlier. Students nowdays have a digital watch.
And besides, there is already a much bigger and clearer clock contributed by the 1993 batch in the hall.
Students were not asked for opinion or anything, despite the fact that it is a "JC2 contribution to the school." Instead, JC2s have no say, and the whole thing was decided by JC1 councillors.
Instead of doing a meaningful contribution to the school, which I definitely won't mind, basically all they want from the JC2 is to pay the $2, and get over with it.
Instead "JC2 contribution to the school" as a meaningful way to thanks the school, it had been simplified and demeaned. Everyone just pay the 2 dollars and shut the fuck up. No rationale, no meaning, no loyalty. Just pay.
So really, it is not meaningful at all, and if you had seen the state of disrepair AJC is in, there are alot better ways to contribute to the school then buying a new clock and replacing a contribution by a previous batch which is still functioning properly and as good as new.
Imagine one day your boss buy this clock and put it in your office, using the exact same reason for the clock as what you told me, then asking you to pay up. After all, its only a few dollars per person. Just as well pay and forget it right?
And really, if you think it is possible to raise disapproval or even just speak up in AJC? The first time we heard of it, we were promptly asked to pay up. Councillor says they already ordered it, and it is on its way. Just pay. There is no approval needed, where is the space for disapproval?
And how do you get in touch with the councillors, when there are no proper way of doing so? Student Councillors forums were held once in a blue moon, and never involves JC2.
It is like being in the dark of everything, and expect jc2s to thank the school by just making them throw in $2. $2 is no a big deal, but making the best way to thank AJC into such rubbish? No thanks. And then only place I can say "no thanks" is certainly not in the school. -

It is just to tell you time.
That is NO need for such detailed accuracy requirement unless you are using it to clock the 100 m sprint for a Olympic games.
So, there should not be any obessession on the degree of accuracy.
The general unhappiness is about the JC1 making decision to buy the clock without consulting the JC2 seniors.
It is not really about loyalty issue to the JC, just a issue of dis-respect.
If it is supposed to be a Farewell gift, the JC 2 student should have the final say and contribute some thing that the JC needs and not something that JC have and something so "visual".
In this case, the JC 1 should be bearing the cost of the technological advanced accurate clock.
Just like the general scenerio in sg, where money is spent on useless re-branding exercise instead of catering to the actual need of the people. -

I know the features are certainly something you can hao lian to outsiders and guests about.
But the practical use?
Explain the need to even meddle with the buying of clocks with such LEDs, when there is already a very large and clear analogue clock contributed by my seniors.
I donno about what LED you are talking about, but those new super bright LEDs are dirt cheap. -

I got a laser pointer with built in superbright LED for $1.20.
Assume the laser diode cost $0.60 and superbright LED cost $0.60,
$1800 = 3000 SuperBright LED.
Anyway, jokes aside, what I want to see and what we possibly need is more transparency with this kind of things.
See students paid so much and still don't know much about that clock or how the price is justified. -

and like what some others had mentioned, the issue is with that j1 councillor taking things into his/her own hands without even seeking the opinions of the j2s, esp when a big-ticket purchase like this is involved where the practicality of such an item is in doubt....and not about the school admin per se
here is a guy who is trying to improve the welfare of his fellow schoolmates(go his blog and checkout his entries about possible improvements to his school's facilities...) so please quit saying that he is only an empty vessel trying to tarnish his school's reputation.
We need more people like him that dare to raise such issues so that there are check and balances in our society to prevent more NKF scandals from happening...or i guess u rather be bo chap and not know where did ur money go to?

given the size of the clock shown in the picture (i haven't seen it myself), i find it easier to read the analogue clock, which is waaayyyy bigger than the $1800 industrial LED or watever shyt
