Are you from the school? If so, I would only blame you and your fellow students for the utter stupidity you guys displayed. Apparently, the youth of this generation are too meek to even voice their disapproval upfront. But only choosing to whine and make sarcastic remarks in a forum.Originally posted by unignal:One fine day, the JC1 councillor suddenly announced to JC2 that they have bought a clock from sweden which will be used as a "farewell gift" from the JC2s to AJC. The clock is worth S$1850, and JC2 students have to pay $2 each to cover the cost. The clock will be used to replaced the existing clock in the hall that was contributed as 1993's "farewell gift". Ignoring the chinese implication of giving a clock, we fast forward to present.
The school finally received the clock, and it was up.

Holy cow! This kind of clock worth 1.8K?
yea agreed. if not that the treasurer of my class was my good fren. I wouldn't haf given a shit.Originally posted by unignal:The clock would have been useful if it was installed in the 1980s or even earlier. Students nowdays have a digital watch.
And besides, there is already a much bigger and clearer clock contributed by the 1993 batch in the hall.
Students were not asked for opinion or anything, despite the fact that it is a "JC2 contribution to the school." Instead, JC2s have no say, and the whole thing was decided by JC1 councillors.
Instead of doing a meaningful contribution to the school, which I definitely won't mind, basically all they want from the JC2 is to pay the $2, and get over with it.
Instead "JC2 contribution to the school" as a meaningful way to thanks the school, it had been simplified and demeaned. Everyone just pay the 2 dollars and shut the fuck up. No rationale, no meaning, no loyalty. Just pay.
So really, it is not meaningful at all, and if you had seen the state of disrepair AJC is in, there are alot better ways to contribute to the school then buying a new clock and replacing a contribution by a previous batch which is still functioning properly and as good as new.
Imagine one day your boss buy this clock and put it in your office, using the exact same reason for the clock as what you told me, then asking you to pay up. After all, its only a few dollars per person. Just as well pay and forget it right?
So morning assembly everyone refers to their own time? oh, my clock is slower madam, so i'm late.Originally posted by unignal:The clock would have been useful if it was installed in the 1980s or even earlier. Students nowdays have a digital watch.
$50 for the clock, $1800 for the 5 course dinner at waraku.Originally posted by Hocklez:at least they should make a metal plate or something to hang beside the clock.
" Contributed by 2006's JC2"
oh well, this make me think of another thing, does my sch also spend so much on these digital clocks? i seriously doubt the price...
i think you are really too stupid to comprehend that such clock are not the regular LED clocks around the house. Industrial LED used in this kinda clock are very expensive.Originally posted by unignal:Imagine one day your boss buy this clock and put it in your office, using the exact same reason for the clock as what you told me, then asking you to pay up. Did you finish reading before posting, or just showing your impulsive and irrationale nature?Originally posted by targa4:So morning assembly everyone refers to their own time? oh, my clock is slower madam, so i'm late.
LOL@stupidity.
If you didnt have the courage to voice out earlier on, then don't come here and whine.
Can show us an example of an expensive industrial LED clock?Originally posted by targa4:i think you are really too stupid to comprehend that such clock are not the regular LED clocks around the house. Industrial LED used in this kinda clock are very expensive.
Do your research before you whine and disgrace your school.
This guy is good enough disgrace to AJC.

I think you missed the point. This clock is expensive not because of the degree of accuracy. But because of the industrial LED used.Originally posted by Medicated Oil:A clock is still a clock - Analogue and Digital.
It is just to tell you time.
That is NO need for such detailed accuracy requirement unless you are using it to clock the 100 m sprint for a Olympic games.
So, there should not be any obessession on the degree of accuracy.
The general unhappiness is about the JC1 making decision to buy the clock without consulting the JC2 seniors.
It is not really about loyalty issue to the JC, just a issue of dis-respect.
If it is supposed to be a Farewell gift, the JC 2 student should have the final say and contribute some thing that the JC needs and not something that JC have and something so "visual".
In this case, the JC 1 should be bearing the cost of the technological advanced accurate clock.
Just like the general scenerio in sg, where money is spent on useless re-branding exercise instead of catering to the actual need of the people.
You missed the point entirely. Justify me the reason for needing such a clock.Originally posted by targa4:i think you are really too stupid to comprehend that such clock are not the regular LED clocks around the house. Industrial LED used in this kinda clock are very expensive.

I also dunno what expensive industrial led clocks that industries would spend $1800 on.Originally posted by unignal:I donno about what LED you are talking about, but those new super bright LEDs are dirt cheap.

Originally posted by unignal:I got a laser pointer with built in superbright LED for $1.20.
Assume the laser diode cost $0.60 and superbright LED cost $0.60,
$1800 = 3000 SuperBright LED.

Please quote price.Originally posted by targa4:
Yes, the cost is justified by the threadstarter.

LOL@Ignorance. If you haven't seen the clock. STFU and go back to your studies. Nov 3 is the start of A Levels right?Originally posted by ctstalin:i'm a AJC year 2 student
given the size of the clock shown in the picture (i haven't seen it myself), i find it easier to read the analogue clock, which is waaayyyy bigger than the $1800 industrial LED or watever shyt
spending 1.8k for a shyt like that? LOL@stupidity of the JC1 councillors![]()
does that mean that after i see the clock tomorrow i can come up with reasons which will convince u tat the clock is just a waste of money?Originally posted by targa4:LOL@Ignorance. If you haven't seen the clock. STFU and go back to your studies. Nov 3 is the start of A Levels right?
