    • Hi, I recently won a pageant and have been offered a 3-year modelling contract with Shine Models and Talent Agence. I was required to pay $299 for a 18-shot photoshoot (yes I just found out that I might have been conned! Crying or Very sad ) so that they could use it to print free comp cards for me.
Has anyone heard anything about this agency? good or bad also can.. Please reply asap this is really urgent. Thanks so much!!

    • its a scam

If an agency wants you, they will pay you to represent you. Not ask you to pay for them to represent you.

    • got watch Channel 5's Tyra Bank Show?

they showed something like model agency scam

and a manager said that if an agency required you to pay money

      means you are being scammed

cos normally they won't ask you for payment

not sure whether this applies in Singapore

    • geez, why don't u just let me shoot you for free.

i'm seeking models for my own portfolio Laughing

    • by the way, there are lots of companies like this.

heard the stories of strangers approaching u to be their model?
only thing is that u need to pay them to shoot you and prep your portfolio.
afterwhich u spend the rest of your life waiting for a deal that won't happen.

what you can do now is just check on the agency.
see if its history is reliable.

A solid team (Photographer/makeup/hairstylist/fashion stylist/art director) will not do a FOC shoot for any local models as the output might not enhance their own portfolio unless the models has very edgy, sharp features, or the models are pan asians or caucasians. Hence, its always hard for local models to be sent for test shoots with established teams.

Most pro agencies in Singapore, minus those like Ave, Perspectives... (which has a top fashion photographer as boss and those with in house production facilities) will require our local models to pay for their portfolio to get them started. However, if the model has great potential, the agency might offset by footing the bill first and then deduct from the money earned later.

However, since you are footing money for your own folio, its your right to decide whether u want to proceed with the team assigned to ya. A top fashion team will cost around $500 onwards (special deals with model agency)
for top notch fashion and lifestyle portfolio shoot with pictures like what you see in magazines and print ads.

Havign said these, there are still some agencies, who will also arrange for Test shoots (FOC) with budding photographers and magazines to help the models build up their portfolios. Another venue is www.clubsnap.org where there are many aspiring photographers looking for FOC models.

Hope this will clear some doubts about the current situation for local models

    • since she's paying for it.

i wonder if she read the model release forms.

if u pay i think you should at least get back some of the photos.
