Bedok Was named after a river here... It was a old name since hundreds of years ago.
Now I dun know where bedok river is. But there is along kang here.
Tampines is a tree if I remember it correctly. Not some dirty jokes suggested Ten Pe nis... if you know what I talking about. -

Sembawang New Town was supposed to be a nature reserve to be conserved. It's name was Senoco.

Pasir ris was the name of a malay village. It means sand fine. or Very fine sand, if I translated correctly.

potong pasir means cut sand. the whole area was a quarry, with some fishing farms before the 1980s.
the last "family farm" in singapore lies opposite chong pang, where chong pang camp stands. farms were phased out from 1985 when the govt decided not to be self-sufficient in food products, when we were doing well meeting our needs in almost every aspects.
i could fish out some stuff about pasir ris later from the urban planning book.... -
No one really knows what happened to Singapore after the Majapahit empire destroyed it and before Sir Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles arrived, but threre are plenty of references to it being a pirates' den.

But Zheng He did came to Sentosa before. Don't know got come to sg or not but he came to Sentosa before going to the west. So Singapore wasn't really such an unknow world. Probably is already abit of a small trading village and small port. Coz Remember Trade between east and west started then. Hundreds of years ago. Dutch are the first to come Singapore and such. then india already had its presents here. Western, middle eastern and india's ship actually got to past SG since 1600 -

I can't find much about Pasir Ris. It is just a mangrove belt. Sg Api-Api and Sg Tampines used to converge before being discharged into sea. The sandy soils contained coconut trees, and there were numerous fish ponds in the vicinity.
In the 1970s, Elias Road linked Tampines Road to the area, where Pasir Ris Hotel stood at the end of it. Malay villages were concentrated on the coast and estuaries, while Chinese settlements were dotted along Elias Road.
Planning for Pasir Ris Town started in the mid-1970's and was initially unveiled in Concept Plan 1978 as a high-density residential area, designed to be "picturesque, with a resort-like ambience and a distinctive character."
The current land use development plan for the town was conceived in the 1985 Master Plan, with a large utility and agritechnology zone planned near Lorong Halus.
In 1992, a draft plan for DGP tried to incorporate a more sea-oriented scheme. All new towns then lacked a close link between the residential areas and the sea. This plan for sea edge housing, marinas and a coastal road was, however, discarded in the 1995 land use plan as it required the complete destruction of Pasir Ris Park, which was deemed too costly to implement. Seaside housing is, however, taking into consideration for future new town developments, like Punggol and Simpang.
Pasir Ris 21 Plan was unveiled in December 1996 at a cost of $20 million, which resulted in Pasir Ris West Plaza, Elias Mall, Pasir Ris CC and dedicated cycling paths. -
In the original plan for Kallang Park and National Stadium, Stadium Boulevard outside the Stadium did not exist but it was later incorporated into the landscape.
Now, that part of the road will once again go into history with the building of Stadium Station as part of Circle Line. -
Between the 14th century and the 18th century, after Malacca got thrashed by the Portuguese who left the entire area, Singapore became a "wild place". I think I also saw references it was a pirates' den.
Therefore, since PoTC3 is "fictionally" dated in the 18th century, what goes on in the movie may not be far from the truth. -

The pre-WW2 railway line that ran from town to Johor, included stations like Tank Road ( present day Clarke Quay), Dunearn, Bukit Timah, Zhenghua Village, and there was a sort of a transfer station near what is Chestnut today.
