One middle aged man on the streets passing brochures decried to me about the future of SG.
He once hold a stable job in the airport but now pass pamphlets.
"Aiyah, why study and study make people here more stupid lah. look at the people here with degrees, all cannot think all just follow law cannot lead and be creative mati lah'.after that he went his way passing brochures shaking his head.

The man just said that studying too much paralysed your thinking and creative output, wonder if there's any truth in it?
of course la. Study so much for what??? Most institutions just want to EARN YOUR MONEY and ACHIEVE HIGHER and HIGHER TURNOVER each year. In fact, they hardly teach you anything nowsaday.
S'poreans are smart people.
They know everything, but understand nothing.
I pass by SMU today..many youths just hang out with angmoh, look good and make small talk..wonder what's the point of building a uni in downtown might as well build IRC there with casino and convention centre
Like what the uncle said study so much for what make us stupid ...might as well learn play poker and try yor luck and skills in poker tornaments
SMU high class mah
that why must be located in the prime city lor
Well, we need degrees. so we get. Its just the fact here and now
aiyah, if u dun study also no good, no study how to read poker and post here/? Better study lor, not just for getting a good job, but for own knowledge and also protect yourself from not knowing what is people talking even if they are scolding you and talking about you.
Unless you want to be a doctor and lawyers, degrees are a waste of time ...how many grads can be a success in SG....70% ,50% or less??
Many simply are spoonfed, dun think and behave poorly, this is what universities are for most who are not scholars....btw does the world need so many scholars who can't solve our problems
u got anything special about u that guarantees ur future without studying?
dun have ah? go study la.
what to do? gahmen is fuck up..
put won't studies student + won't study students = disaters..
they still dont' fuckign understand
ya , everyone knows. but what to do, we need that shyt piece of paper.
Degree only .
Now a days spend money can get one already .
Did the middle aged man study too much when he was younger?
hey. knowledge is power. don't you know???!?!!!
only stupid idiots study and don't know why they are studying.
i think problem with most of the population here???
they study not because they want to know or learn something.
they study just because they were expected to, or for some cert whatever.

You can only be a success if you have something worth being successful. Be it a grad or not, if you do not have that X-factor, it's a hercluean task to be extremely successful
You take a degree not for purely the gaining of the knowledge, but for the training of your mind power, your handling of stress and the ability to multi-task under tight time constraints, your communication skills with people from the scientific community, soft skills etc etc.
If one goes into a learning institution with the mindset that it is a place only for gaining of knowledge, then one would never receive the full education/training that the institution provides.
Even when I teach tuition, I do not teach "memorizing" or regurgitation of "knowledge". I teach exam strategies, methods of checking that saves time, how to handle these questions under the limited time given, etc, as well. All these are skills that can be applied universally to all subjects, from pri sch to uni exams.

just get myopia also got degree liao mah..some 300 degrees some even 500 degrees,..so what is the problem.
study is important. what's more important is to apply what you study to real life. so you have to study well in ç¤¾ä¼šå¤§å¦ as well..
I think to blame it on the system is quite unfair.
Maybe this analogy might help:
Ask 10 people to cook the same packet of maggi mee and most of them will cook it differently.
Some will add an egg (or 2), some will add vegetables and some will add ham/bacon.
Others may even add some other ingredients.
Some people may put in more water, while others less.
Some might use the entire packet of seasoning, others only half.
Some people may use a bigger flame, some may prefer a small one.
In the end, most will end up with a uniquely different bowl of mee even when they started out with the same packet.
Of cos we can't avoid having some people who'll just cook the standard way and not add anything.
But in the end, if ur bowl of mee is plain and mundane, u can't blame anyone.
Afterall, u are the cook.
Hope u get my point. :P
in this case, all start out with different packet of noodles but end up with the same dish
