and tt does not mean my father is not my father
life has other things more impt to care about than why surname is HYPY and not dialect -
I have a different surname from the whole of my extended family, including my late paternal grandfather.

btw, why was it that the last batch of 2lt that just passed out from OCS were given a week of off-in-lieu? what the hell?

Those born from 80s onwards were given HYPY name but surname in dialect. Anyone in this age group can confirm? -

I actually thought "Li" is better than "Lee"
Because "Lee" seems too English or too Anglo writing.

i guess you lot were too young to remember it...during tony tan's time as education minister, the govt wanted romanised chinese characters to strengthen the speak mandarin campaign...so the ding dong with the hypy names, even tekka market wasn't spared, it became zhu jiao (pig's leg)...but kenna complain, only recently the market changed name again ....back to the hypy name, they had to revert it because the cock policy caused problems during overseas travel because frequently overseas immigration officials would be asking why the father and children have different surnames...lol...
