One lesson that can be learned from NKF - ministers must not keep defending organizations by making defensive statements as such statements may be without basis and may lead to more arrogance.
Let GLCs, LTA, URA, HDB, PSA, SIA and public organizations stand on their own transparent and accountable corporate governance without any cover up of existing shortcomings. If ministers keep making statements to cover up shortcomings they will lead to more NKFs and LTAs, and more SBSs and there will be more complacency and more worms. Let Patrons who do not know enough about worms not make unwarranted statements to protect unworthy organizations or government departments. Let citizens be the watchdogs and all will be better off because of better governance. -
Perceived or otherwise, an influential patron (in this case the PMÂ’s wife) is a force to be reckoned with. All the people in the NKF connection, whatever their portfolios or purpose, are but normal human beings. It would be suicidal for any of them, mainly civil servants, to attempt to rock the boat with an important celebrity sitting inside it.
An influential person on the Board might not intend to abuse his position but other people tasked to carry out investigations (naturally) give him face when a situation arises. "Sweep it under the carpet and wait till he steps down" is a good alternative.

Many such politicians, although absolutely ignorant in the functions of a company, sit on the Board and some sit on the boards of several companies. We don’t need an expert to tell us the real intention of companies installing such “advisers” or directors”. -

I fear this scandal may have opened the Pandora's box of scandals.
After all, as what Mr. Khaw has said, he has to rely on experts to uncover any wrongdoing.
And you know what? There could be many clueless powerful people heading big financial institutions and many clever key executives thinking just like TT Durai and his gang.

like the massive floods of covered warrants which cannibliise the main shrs and normal warrants in order for sgx to make more money. Cover warrant add no value to companies except harmful to speculators and good for issuer.
The MAS makes so, Speculating in cover warrants is not harmful but speculating shrs is. There are strict regulation and chargeable for manupulating and speculating in shrs but not cover warrants, Why , Big banks and private groups are the issuers. these cover warrants only have life span of 6 mnths and bring weathly gains for issuers.
The NKF maybe doing good for patients but has bad governance and made bad use of their patrons and pitiness of patients to cover its bad tracks, it even manage to convince the civil court here on the first class law suits.
Somehow i get the feeling justice here are always in favour of big and powerful organisation, one example is the price that goverment pay to acquire properties for development, buy dirt cheap and sell damn high. -

Good point Robert. But how? Govt very defensive whenever public questions them. Another problem we have is that the public has very high tolerance level. They have forgotten that WE are the ones who voted the MPs and that it is their duty to work for us and not the other way round. This graduation or test by fire is acquired from practical exposure for a number of years until a person sees and realizes all the connectivity between assumptions and practical results through motivating people and masses.
It is important that leaders now learn after all the fumblings to begin from below the ivory tower ..from the steps below their high-powered policies and decisions.
Those steps have to be arranged in easily connected integrated work steps and processes that begin from implementation level. If leaders cannot see these implementation steps and processes they would be groping in the morass of unknown human interactions between tasks and results.
