if the royal family wan something, they will get it by one way or another.. true, they public will not b convinced but ppl memories r poor.. 5 yrs down the road jus give out "ang bows" again n everything is well again..Originally posted by LazerLordz:using the ISA on him would be politically inexpedient.Even CSJ was not touched by this Act, because there is no proof of a threat to national security, and 140th media or not, the public simply won't buy it.
A simple smear campaign caused Aljunied to teeter, it would be political suicide to ever use the ISA.You can count on a real implosion then.
Case dropped. Legally speaking, Gomez could sue LKY for libel for alleging that he is a criminal.Originally posted by PoRen:let's say cid said no charges becos no substantial evidence, then wat would happen?
5 years down the road, the demographics will change. It's quite obvious, the 2011 election will be fought in a battle for the hearts and minds of the youths today, who couldnt care less about politics, but know rampant bullying when they see it.Originally posted by monoslayer:if the royal family wan something, they will get it by one way or another.. true, they public will not b convinced but ppl memories r poor.. 5 yrs down the road jus give out "ang bows" again n everything is well again..![]()

If you are working in a Garment Department, QUIT immediately. Dont believe in openness, transparency, fair, just........etc. Even your boss or closest colleague will be frightened and he rather sacrifice you than to sacrifice himself.
If you have to deal with any of the Garment Departments for whatever purpose, dont commit any STUPID MISTAKES such that they can find fault with you. They are watching you closely. All the otherwise insignificant signs and slogans suddenly seem to be displayed specially for you --- e.g. NO SMOKING, NO LITTERING, NO SHOUTING, QUEUE UP and SUBMIT YOUR FORMS.
In fact, I think anybody who have had ten years of education in Singapore should know. How could GM be so........??? aaarrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhh !!!!![]()

Actually, its unlikely that there is a homogenious desire to prosecute JG, one might imagine a handful only within the G. The rest will think it counterproductive.Originally posted by PoRen:Can imagine...CID chief reporting to Wong KS every nite..."still no evidence".....

Yes, you've hit the nail on the head.Originally posted by ubuntu:Do you mean social contract like S21 and remaking Singapore etc?
Actual this is pretty important, our social capital is what has held us together and made us successful.
But cracks in the so called social contract have started to appear to some; for example -
1. the decision for the IR to go ahead against the express wishes and concerns of responsible citizens, and values of the major faiths - crass money in effect becoming more important than intangible but priceless social capital - knowing that gambling will cause severe casualties every year but just seeing this as a statistic. Akin to offering human sacrifice to the god of gambling for a certain return.
the conclusion that one draws is that it is no longer possible to trust that the right decision will be made by those in authority and that there can be a strong voice for the people when it really matters ; thus a stronger opposition must arise to give the option to the nation to move to an agreed social standard
2. the inevitability of Asean Economic Integration and the regionalisation of identity - which also means we need some real politicians before the AEI becomes a reality.
If what you are saying is that the younger generation will see these or other issues and will not agree to be bound by the social contract any longer, you are probably right!

the fear factor strikes not only on civil servants, but the average person in the street as wellOriginally posted by BillyBong:If that's true, then Brandon Siow of WP is in serious S H I T?
Our own maturity has to come to bear.
This fear factor going round may have been cultivated by the Ruling Party, especially civil servants, too afraid to 'bite the hand that feeds you', as some has graciously pointed out.
At some time, the 'threat' and 'fear' became self-induced. People, on hearing rumours that someone lost his govt job because he voted alternative parties spread like wildfire.
Such a situation worked in favor of the Ruling Party, especially since nothing could be proved. They let a perfectly illegitimate situation consume the population.
In the end, it extended to conspiracy theories that included ludicrious issues such as the serial numbers on ballot papers and govt moles sent into alternative parties to destabalize them.
If we want to emerge from our own apathy, this is one shadow we have to throw off.
The more you fall into this trap, the more you play into their hands.

if LKY has to lose the battle, so be it.If Gomez is guilty of breaking the law, charge him.If he is innocent, let him go.
Any charges has to be pressed according to actual guilt, not influenced by anything else.

WELL said. But sad to say, that is theory.
MATURITY ? The Ruling Party should start first. And the media should do likewise. Look at the reports during at election times. How can we deny the ugly turn of events right under our nose?
Rumours? Self induced? Threat? I am not sure. But I rather err on the side of caution. In practice how many would want to be a hero, or guinea pig offering themselves for "experiment"? When it comes to the crunch and you are obviously victimied, who will stick his neck out and help you, aside from lamenting, "poor chap how sad"?
Deliberately or otherwise, the Govt have installed and instilled this fear factor in us. The serial number issue? Ridiculous or Real ? Will we ever know the true answer. Unless the number is removed, how do you tell people not to be frightened ???
How many would want to put their theory into practice ??
And how many are but paper heroes ?
