Supporting foreign banks and losing billions. Now supporting US companies.
HP, Intel and Yahoo have partnered with the state-run Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign -- which 15 years ago gave birth to the Web browser -- and Germany's Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. The Illinois partnership also involves the U.S. National Science Foundation.

Universities partnering HP, Intel and Yahoo might make sense, for the research. IDA???!!! Just giving money to foreigners again.
Increase GST to help the poor? More like to lick foreign as-....
It's not their money, so why would they bother.
Someone is worried that his current nick will be ban again, so he registered new nick? ![]()
in the early days of japanese reconstruction, the govt gave unbridled support in terms of finances and exclusive contracts to the likes of toyota, mitsubishi and a hosts of local companies which are now world class brands...the rational was to build local industries which in turn supported the populace....hence, japan has done exceedingly well without many foreign imports....while it's true that sg has a small market, all the more local companies and population ought to be nurtured...at the current rate, give a generation or two, sg will still thrive, but there will be no singaporean spirit or soul....this will just be a transit point for many to plunder and move on....
honestly, why is there a need to reserve places for foreign students to do coverted studies like law or medicine....give it to the locals, there are enough to go round....
...the dishonorable despots here do not trust their own people and will continue to lick foreign as- for the foreseeable future...
...without 1st world democracy, that is what you get, a bunch of despots ruling over you and taking as much of your money as possible and then use it to lick foreign as-...

mr stock market `expert',
i don't think this is a fair statement from you given that we know little of what financial commitment this partnership entails that ida needs to cough out. what's wrong with partnering business and technology leaders if there are net benefits ida can get out of?
excerpts from ida press release: "IDA will facilitate research in the test bed by providing its users with the computing resources required to develop cloud computing software and applications. IDA will also leverage the test bed and its industry partnerships to train local students and professionals on the technologies and programs associated with cloud computing."
the way i see it is ida is merely allowing its potentially under-utilised resources here to be more meaningfully deployed. it is a win-win situation because ida too will benefit from these behemoth IT corporations expertise and we pretty much know now we lag the `softwares' to complement the `hardwares' we have built-up recently. additionally, ida will get bragging rights in this region for having this sort of partnership going on.
for me, this is a pretty small deal. folks like hp and intel has much larger things to accomplish. it is the media who has hyped it up. and perhaps you too...

He has created many many clones thus far, and got them banned one after another. Thus the suspicion on newly registered posters to be clones of him.
But I guess after our mathematical discussion yesterday, you have already proven yourself to be unique :D

A one-off incident is no big deal, but there is a clear pattern of the despots taking money from silliporeans, and use the money to support foreigners.
They should either not take or support the silliporeans the money they take.
