I don't think I remember my 21st birthday.......but anyway, I think u should go there in peace, coz if u are upset, it's just counter-productive, for everyone there. If u want something more 'wah' , then just plan something else/ add another event. That can fulfill ur dreams. If ur BF can't take part, it's ok. He's not ur husband yet anyway. Include ur friends/ family and make it memorable, as u wish. -

Btw, my 21st birthday wasn't really that bad...? Had all of the 'closest people' around me... Simple small home-made buffet thingy but that was what I really appreciates... And what really matters back then was the company...

Let's face it. most guys will not have any idea what we want. much less how we want to spend our birthday, hence when he trys to surprise you, you might not like the plan. but key point is HE PLANNED A SURPRISE FOR YOU!!!!
remember my ex planning my 21st b-day bbq with all my friends. he so funny take my hp copy down all my close friends number... then test water asking if i like celerbrations with my relatives.... in the end i also guessed his plans... mind you i never liked big parties esp if I'm the host.... however it's sweet that he tried and well i ended up enjoying it!!!
do not focus on the "I don't wanna celerbrate with him and buddy, I have no choice in the matter." you can make the decision to sit back and bask in the knowledge that you have a bf that cares enough to plan your b-day surprose for you!!! -

Your boyfriend has specially taken the day off from a hectic working schedule, booked a table at a restaurant, & taken the trouble to invite your friend. It's highly likely he's gonna pay for your friend's company because he hoped you would enjoy your birthday!
What more can you want?
