my brother told me this morning, as we are going to church, that he is having suicidal thoughts again...
he feels that life is just so stagnant, so... unchanging and. bleak. he is harping on how nice it would be to have a restart button for Life, it's as though he is thinking of death as a restart button... and he told me he cant seem to get to sleep every night and maybe soon he needs to rely on sleeping pills... help... i don't know what to do... i don't want to lose a brother..

i think he has very few friends in school, cos he keeps saying how narrow-minded people are, how they are very practical and saving-own-ass kinda people... think my mum dunno lah... she's just always worried about him cos he's always like, emerging himself in computer games... i dunno lah... i tried asking him what exactly is the problem, but it seems he cant pin point it (either that or he dun wanna tell me), and its just attributed to a general lack of motivation for life...Originally posted by leo-kun:have a good talk with your brother

have you find out why exactly is your brother facing these problems? is he facing relationship problems, study problems or family problems?
if you can find out exactly why he feels depressed, it is easier to try to help him and solve the problem. -

Identify what mistakes have he done. Find out what does he really wants Find out what kind of websites he surfs (since suicidal teens will be surfing websites to find out for websites to find out the various methods to suicide) His daily habits His love life and his friends
Probably he won't speak to a family member, or reveal his inner emotions , but most likely i think you need to give him emotional support , if he is in NS and if he can't cope with the stress , then perhaps you could organise some youth outing with other youths , help him to learn and make more new friends. -

As siblings , we can only say that we have done and tried our best.

Well I bet your bro's still quite young rightz... what kinda problems do you think ur bro's facing? tell him , death doesn't resolve problems... why not just face em' and make some changes and improvements to his current life and mentality... or maybe just go see a doctor... it may help.... -

actually... i know he is really dejected and depressed, and inevitably, the thought of suicide will arise. but i have told him firmly that he is not to die. that the next time he thinks of it, just think about how sad i will be, how i will cry my hearts out cos i know his prob,but still cant help save him. i hope that will make him think twice before doing anything... i know i am very important to him
cos he always says how family is all that he has...
my main prob now is, how can i help him to walk out of it all... get him to be motivated for life again, since all he sees around him is bleak. -

Well , there are some mistakes pple do make in life , hint : you just need to find out more. Maybe he can't get over his mistakes.

He has a goal , but you don't see it. i got a sister also , and she thinks that i really want to be a businessman instead of a aircraft pilot.

There are two things you can do ;
1. control his computer addiction (Which will eventually help him)
2. buy more computer games to fuel his urge
You could also look at his current grades .. if his grades has been sliding , it means that he is too addicted to his computer games (Which has happened to me before)
also , he doesn't have to be involved and have a girlfriend in order to have a relationship problem.

I have a relative.. who was young and good looking.. so obsessed with christianity and believe taht god will save him or watsoever. He went to jump down a building years ago and died. -
Find out the books he read, some books and websites might influence him.
if the books/websites are influencing him , call up starhub to request for them to block the url
check out the history log of the computer and find out what website he surfs.
if he surfs porn, just bear with it lah.
guys got urge one.
most importantly , remember to show him pictures of how gory suicide is.
And tell him of things to look forward to in life...
