2. Working people some times get their pay cut as well. So why should it not happen to kids? The economic reality these days is that there are ups and downs.
You should just give her a fixed amount and stop paying for the other stuff like the mobile phone bill. Let her manage on her own. It will teach her valuable financial skills.
By cutting her allowance, cruel as it may seem to some people, you are telling her who is the boss as far as finance is concerned. If she gets the point, she would have learnt a valuable lesson in life and understand that the world does not owe her a living. Otherwise, she would likely be fired very quickly from whatever job she gets in the future.

Wow... ur sis is lucky man, me and sis didn't have the chance to take $ from others.. all $ are earn thru hard work.
But i always tell myself i will be fine, its only we took up the financial burdens earlier then others but it's nt that bad either.
Coz take it as a challenge coz next time, when we have our own family we will not be that stress out like newly wedd couples who used to being shelter..

listen to her bf more than you(provided bf is not those Bo Chap type). If not, do you know any of her close friends,try talking to them. -
Reduce her allowance ,get her to look for a part-time job instead of spending her free time in front of com & on e phone.Having a job wil giv her a sense of responsibilities & oso she wil noe tat its hard to earning $$ is hard man

it will be very difficult for kids growing up from a well-fed environment to appreciate what was given to them and they will take it for granted for life...u hav to let them know previlege not an entitlement and can be taken away..a phrase i learnt from my ex unit fuc king platoon sergeant (whom i hate a lot but now find his words of some meaning). you can cut down her allowance and i think food is cheap in poly. giv yr dad some time off and he should be able to get over mom's death and earn a living for himself driving a taxi. as for house chores dun need to keep it squeaky clean as long as it is presentable and not an exttreme junkyard.
for me i i come from a not so well to do family and i do not hav all the toys i want. if i wanted a digimatic watch i will save up 10 cents out of 20 cents from my primary school days allowance and once i hit 6 dollars i know i can buy that watch i wanted so much.....i started saving up my first 1000 dollars in the bank when i waas doing ns and got those incentives from monetary gold IPPT and marksmanship awards. my dad still gave me a weekly 10 dollar allowance back then which i needed since there was a period when i was posted to a nine-five unit.
now i wil pamper myslef a lttle every pay day after a month's work but will never over spent. i eat plain rice a couple of times a week to remind myself of my past and have a taste of what it is like to go with the minimum in my stomach.
its all up in the brain....u can earn 1000 dollars a month and be rich...u can earn 5000 dollars a month go bankrupt and a pauper later in life

I think your sister's being really immature. Either that or she's just trying to ignore the problems in her life by running away from them the way she's doing now. Maybe she doesn't even realize the kind of problems you're facing.
I respect you for what you've been doing, really. $400 is A LOT. That $400 could so be used somewhere esle. If all she's going to do is just have fun in her life while ignoring everything esle around her, then I think she needs a good talking to. Where's her sense of responsibility and independency? And she STILL expects to be fetched to school! She's not a queen for goodness sakes.
Do you know of anyone who could come help you out with the house works or stuff, at least until things are more stabilized?
