yup, the group meetings that i have with my psychologists include other patients that are believed to suffer the same disorder as i do.Originally posted by FeowFeow:Sorry Mouse, I should've explained more clearly.
In Australia, there are support groups for people suffering/have suffered from the same illness, & they band together to share their experiences & to give emotional support.
I've read about support groups for mothers whose children suffer from cancer. The mothers whose children have recovered are able to empathise with those whose children have just been diagnosed, or who're undergoing treatment. The strain is unbelievable. The support groups act as a bonding session & support system for the mothers. They offer solutions to problems such as childcare dilemmas for the other healthy children, how the mothers can talk to the other children on why their sibling is very sick, etc.
The purpose of the support groups I've mentioned, is Not about, "Oh, I've suffered from the same symptoms before, & I think/feel/say/believe you're suffering from XXX disease". The support group is about, "Hey, you're gonna be alright. In the meantime, don't feel so down, this is what I did to keep my spirits up", that kinda thing.

Yup. It's different to be hearing more concrete suggestions from others who might be having the same (or close) problem(s) as you... To be truly understood and comforted...Originally posted by FeowFeow:Sorry Mouse, I should've explained more clearly.

It's not likely that your doc can get much from you that session. He / she I think did quite an appropriate thing.Originally posted by laosu:I asked my shrink on my first visit.
Me: Doc, have you been to hell?
Doc: No.
Me: Doc, how long have you know me?
Doc: About 30 minutes since you step into my office?
Me: Doc, can you feel what I've been feeling?
Doc: Not really but I need you to tell me so that I can try to understand.
Me: Then Doc, how to make you understand when me myself is still trying to understand?
Doc: I think you are tired. We end this session here. Come again next week.
Me: *smile*
That's the last time I step into the office.
