what if the gal u like is of a different religion from u?

if one gets married, both must be same religion ah? as in, one must convert to the other's religion? are there cases where they retain their own religions?

Personally I think love plays a greater role then religion. In fact although I believe almost all religions preach the same things.
Like respect elders, think cleanly, don't indulge in sins and all those. Its like one universal religion was divided into several religions like Hindu, Christianity, Islam, Buddhist and many many others to suit that particular group of people. And minor adjustments were made to the universal religion hence the differences now.
All great philosophers and saints thought the same main stuff. Like no violence, show love to everyone regardless of whether they love you.
Well so I would say actually we all were from the same religion once upon a time and if you remove the minor differences, religion doesn't cause a hindrance to relationships.. -

And did you all think about how every religion says there is hell? Its something to ponder about. When you die (n u have been bad) do u go to just One Main Hell or are there sub divisions with boards saying "Hell for Hindus" and "Hell for Christians" and so on.. lol. As long as you are good regardless of religion you will go to heaven. -

the best advise is, better not to find a gal with different religion. it may affect your religion life, or if you're free thinker and the gal is a christian, she might keep urging u to convert into christian which u may not like.

of course one can say that love can overcome religion and all.. but when meeting your folks.. that's when the problem arises..
who will convert? children what religion? you mean you wouldnt be going with me to the temple/church anymore? why can't you find a girl/guy of our religion??!! she's not the only one. -

haha erm i noticed you wrote 'the girl you LIKE' not the girl you planning to marry right... don't think so much until you get to the bridge la. and when you get to the bridge you two will noe what to do, cuz love between you two will be strong enuff for either one of you to make sacrifices for each other.
just to clarify people, my buddhist mom got married to my christian dad. who says it's not possible? n it's not rare either cuz quite a few of my frenz have christian and free thinker or buddhist parents. in fact i feel it is more likely that a buddhist would want the entire family to be buddhist lor. (in church my frenz always have to sneak out cuz parents don approve of christianity, then some even beat their children for not following tradition. i noe not everyone does that la just citing some examples). But both of my parents were not very extreme in their religion, thus there was no forcing nor fake 'compromising'. recently then my mom converted to christianity of her own will. (she was touched by God and not due to any influence from my dad or other forces). budden i just sharing my story la not trying to insert any religious thingy in here. anyway if it's the girl you like right, if she likes you she would probably respect your decision to remain a buddhist lor... the only other reason she would say she don wanna be with u becuz u not christian is that she using it as an excuse cuz she doesn't like you...

Speaking from a Christian perspective. We're not supposed to date another person of another religion .
Personally , i believe that thats stupid.
However, if i truly love someone , i would want the person to be saved, and thus i will try to show him/her what i know about christ . whether he or she takes the next step is something only he/she can decide. I will not pressure her to accept my religion , i just plant the seed and hope that she does, that is basically what most of your more discerning christian friends are doing , however , sadly some of them do go overboard and they do the opposite, driving ppl away from christ. -

i don't mean to condemn any religion whatsoever, but if you believe, that Buddism is the path to enlightment , wouldnt you want your loved ones to be enlightened also ?

personally am a free thinker.. but can't reali stand the way how christians tried to convert ppl even if they are unwilling.. so for the gal i like, free thinker wil be the best.. if not buddism is very ok wif me.. unless of cos the gal i like is a christian but not those very on type, onli sometimes goes church or celebrations in church and not a pirority tat muz go type i dun mind.. -
