I will not. Makes me smarter.Originally posted by rainee:I especially like this quote by Alexander Pope:

Some memories of the past cause some of us to not be able to move forward. Or it causes some of us to take a long time before we can move on and love the way we once loved. It causes some of us to wait in vain, to never give happiness a second chance because of the disappointment we have experienced in the past.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Erase already but character never change... got use?
Let the past teach you how you should move in the future.
I have tried to deal with them. But because they seem to intertwine with my present and future, I admit I do not have enough courage to withstand the pain.Originally posted by fudgester:No, I wouldn't.
I've had a lot of painful memories... but I know that they are there for a reason, even if the reason sometimes seems to escape my understanding.
If anything, true courage lies with not denying your past. It comes from dealing with and facing your past.
Agree that some memories of past could cause some of us not being able to move forward or take a long time to move on.Originally posted by rainee:Some memories of the past cause some of us to not be able to move forward. But I can see why you say it is no use to erase cos we will just get back into the same situation all over again, and more painful memories will be created.
But I guess think that if one is given a chance to forget, then maybe there will be a chance he/she will move forward finally to embrace happiness instead of spending all his/her time trying to deal with the past.
It is like someone waiting for the train in the train station. He/she wants to leave the place that holds a lot of painful memories for them, the ticket is bought and the train is here. But something in the past prevents him/her from boarding the train, and because of that, the train leaves that person behind.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Agree that some memories of past could cause some of us not being able to move forward or take a long time to move on.
Life is contradictory. Forget yet never change... results in the same situation.
Wants to change yet cannot forget... results in us losing opportunities again and again.![]()
No, i won't. Cause i believe everything happens for a reason, no matter it's good or bad things....Mistakes are made to be learnt....If you erase your past, wouldn't it be like knowing nothing? Then you will still make the same mistakes again....ha...Originally posted by rainee:I especially like this quote by Alexander Pope:

Yea, my past does teach me some lessons I would never forget. I am grateful for these lessons, but also, I wish I am someone who is more forgetful, someone who can just let go of the past without hanging on to it and re-living the memories everyday in the present so that I would not forget all those precious scenes.Originally posted by Heartzzz:No, i won't. Losing something or someone is a learning phrase in life...It will help us to become a better person by learning the mistakes we previously made so that we can provide more for our future partner....Its the same for doing things...The past acts as a learning curve and an experience...Experience is a very important thing in life...Most jobs out there requires experience...And experience is learnt and gained through time and lessons learned....That's why i think the past is so important to us....Without the bad, how will we treasure the good times??
Yea, the first time I came across this idea was in the movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." And it is also from this movie I got this quote that appears at my first post in this thread.Originally posted by M©+square:Funny! Then again, i don't want to seem like i'm pricking on some people.

You ah....you need to overcome it not forget about it.Originally posted by rainee:Yea, the first time I came across this idea was in the movie "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." And it is also from this movie I got this quote that appears at my first post in this thread.
Nah... different people have different ways of looking at the same thing. Some choose to try to forget their past, while others choose to try to deal with it. Personally I choose the latter. I try to deal with my past, no matter how painful it may be.Originally posted by M©+square:Funny! exactly, so long le, still in the same state. Sometimes I wonder how long more would it take me before I can completely convince myself that I have moved on.Originally posted by M©+square:You ah....you need to overcome it not forget about it.

That's why I was using the metaphor of someone standing in the train station just now, because it takes courage to be able to leave a place one has grown so comfortable with behind.Originally posted by fudgester:Nah... different people have different ways of looking at the same thing. I think I was also inadvertently pricking upon others when I said that true courage comes not from denying the past, but from facing up to your past. I guess I was unconsciously insinuating that people who can't deal with the past are not courageous.... which is not the case.
I guess courage also comes from being able to stop living in your past and learning to embrace the future. If the ability to forget the past allows you to do that, then I suppose it isn't all that bad.
My apologies.
Forcing yourself no use de. Just give yourself time to pluck up enough courage to leave the City of Past.Originally posted by rainee:It is like someone waiting for the train in the train station. Like the train, time does not wait for us. Life goes on, no matter how much we have been hurt, doesn't matter that we are doubling up with the pain and we wish we are given a period of grace when time can stop moving until we are fully healed.
I know my train of happiness is waiting for me. Do I have enough courage to leave this City of the Past behind?

M©, sit on the fence not nice de.Originally posted by M©+square:What is interesting is.
All this while, i have the constant answer to this question - that is, facing the past/experience, deal with it and live on. This is my default answer.
Somehow today, this sudden thought of considering the other end of possiblity jolted into my mind.
Interesting!
Because now i'm given a thought to both choices and it aint bad at all.
Cheers~!
Aiyo...Thats life mah...I'm sure everyone will have a happy and sad story behind him and her....Of course a failed relationship is one of the worst feelings a human has to experience...But as i said, its life....Originally posted by rainee:Yea, my past does teach me some lessons I would never forget. The past is precious to me, and yet it is also almost too painful for me to bear. That is the irony, I want to lose them so that I would not remember a single thing, yet at the same time, I am afraid I will forget them, that there will be nothing to remind me of the happy times I have had in the past, so I am trying to hang on to them by replaying the scenes again and again in my mind.
No. Why would I? The past isnt something which I would view as negative no matter how bad it is. The past has served me well and provided me with lessons no matter how painful it is.Originally posted by rainee:I especially like this quote by Alexander Pope:
