One of my classmates committed suicide.Originally posted by thousandisland:many people are far too tempted by the quick death, thinking that it'll end all their pain and suffering. maybe cause the light to the end of tunnel seems too dim that suicide seems to be a better way out?
it's a sad world.
like i've said, i'd guess it's an easy escape, a quick release, a painless death it seems to those attempting suicide. i havent experienced the state whereby i teteered on the brink of life and death neither will i ever want to experience that. yah, i agree we shouldnt just tag them as cowards or quitters especially you dont know what they were going through.Originally posted by mancha:The emphasis should be on committing suicide, and not jumping off a block of flats.
Before the government's building program went into full swing, there were lots of squatter settlements, and kampong houses. During those times, hanging was the method used. Ulu areas like farm land, poisoning by insectcide was common. Near seaside, wadding out into the sea and drown.
Now jumping off is the convenient method.
Suicide, is it revenge by trying to hurt someone else's feelings,ie making them feel guilty, or is it escaping a mess.
Or what?
well...what i think is,pple who commit suicide dont have to be cowards or pple who dont think on behalf of their loved ones...Originally posted by X3Mi5t:They may not be cowards.... But then should they be classified as the thoughtless? They did not think of how their parents had brought them up, their frens and teachers caring and kind attitude towards them, as well as watching them grow.
Why not just think of the gd stuffs and let the bad ones go? There are so much opprtunities and so much chances out there. And moreover, they should have more determination to live on. Sort out their emotions with their parents or who they are closest with and should avoid such rash actions.
Unless they've become a total vegetable and think that they are of no use to the world, then they can jump down the building... that is provided their relatives allow that and help them by pushing them down...they can't do it on themselves anymore.
They would be better off living than dead anyway.... committing suicide is a crime... which in a way mean that they've started off their 'other' life by committing a crime... which isn't a very good introduction...![]()

Well, I read with interest all the previous individuals post about their views about jumping off buildings and suicide attempts.
What I can say, based on my experiences in working with friends who are suicidal is that they do so, or tried to do so, when it's total hopelessness - something that many of us would not be able to understand. It is most usual when someone becomes clinically depressed, and when there is absolute hopelessness (which only occurs in depressives), and with perceived limited social support, suicide would be the last resort. There is no way we can talk rationality into it. We can use all kinds of nasty adjectives like "selfish", "thoughtless", "stupid", etc on them. The fact that remains is that these people who are depressive, and are on the verge of committing suicide are genuinely helpless. Is there a way for any of us to imagine what it is like to "never feel happy before"? This is just one possible question that I can pose to invite people to think as close as possible for people with depression.
Of course, there are those who committed suicide out of impulse, due to relationship problems, etc. I would not hesitate to use those nasty adjectives with them.
Just my two-cents' worth.
