With regard to that, I think it really is a matter of personal preference although I'm a strong advocate of that as it no doubt helps to open your minds and broaden your horizons when you get to experience a different culture and lifestyle(especially for Asians; however, it's also my observation that Asians tend to benefit less - compared with others - from such cultural exchanges as there's a greater tendency for them to stick with their group even in a foreign land).Originally posted by casino_king:Do you think that on principle, people should spend a part of their lives sampling some other cultures in another country?
That is a keen observation. japs I know keep to themselves. Except maybe Singaporeans? I know Singaporeans who cannot stand meeting other Singaporeans in a foreign land (not refering to students.)Originally posted by walesa:With regard to that, I think it really is a matter of personal preference although I'm a strong advocate of that as it no doubt helps to open your minds and broaden your horizons when you get to experience a different culture and lifestyle(especially for Asians; however, it's also my observation that Asians tend to benefit less - compared with others - from such cultural exchanges as there's a greater tendency for them to stick with their group even in a foreign land).
Not just Japanese, but Asians generally. Taking tertiary campuses(both in S'pore and overseas) as an example and you'll notice Asians generally tend to stick with people of similar backgrounds(ie.Indians with Indians, Chinese with Chinese, Vietnamese with Vietnamese, etc) - that is hardly the case among Westerners(for starters, they're often more willing to mix and mingle with the natives - or locals, if you prefer - which can only help enhance their appreciation of cultural diversity).Originally posted by casino_king:That is a keen observation. japs I know keep to themselves. price rise again?! absurd man, the ppl in sg who are importing it.Originally posted by walesa:It's SGD17.90 when I last came across it.
It's just absurd - STG3.50 hardly works out to $12 and that's before you consider the fact they don't fly one copy in exclusively...![]()
