apologise for the OOT again, but when i was in sg, it used to cost me S$15?Originally posted by walesa:It's almost SGD20 when I last checked? The prices of most imported magazines from the UK/US are so grossly inflated you could be forgiven for thinking they'd been flown in by a rocket. At least, that's the case for the mags I buy.
About Schumi, but nothing compares - and surpasses - the desperate lunge he attempted on Villeneuve back in '97. Throw in the occasion, the prize at stake and the fact a two-time(then) world champion was that desperate to resort to such means, you get just about the perfect epitome of everything wrong with people who have scaled the highest pinnacles in their profession.
Even taking his unscrupulous demeanour aside, while he is no doubt a very consistent driver, I'm not one to live for mechanical, predictable drivers - that explains why I've never quite fancied the Piquets, Prosts and Schumachers and would gladly watch a Senna or Hakkinen at their best.
Not so easy right? with family and all. also you might want to marry somebody like yourself, while having no problem associating with different others.Originally posted by HENG@:what if they went somewhere else to soak in different lifestyle, liked that lifestyle, and decided to settle there instead of going home? would that be exceptional or not?
i am not as attached to family as most asian families typically are. As long as i can visit them once a year, I have no problems. I also don't intend to marry, possibly.Originally posted by casino_king:Not so easy right? with family and all. also you might want to marry somebody like yourself, while having no problem associating with different others.

Just joking.
So it is easier for you then the average Sinagporean. Do you think that on principle, people should spend a part of their lives sampling some other cultures in another country?

Don't have to be so PC right? Has living overseas enriched you in a way that living in Singapore could never have?Originally posted by HENG@:
i think many buddhists just went into fatal spasms on hearing that!
i think people all have different paths to follow. as long as u live your life without causing harm or hurt to others, however u choose to live it, its fine.
i would say my opening up of my mind to a different social idea begin in Sg. why and how, I don't know. Perhaps its because the education system had a backlash effect on me, instead of the desired effect of creating another mindless clone.Originally posted by casino_king:Don't have to be so PC right? BTW Buddhists are very tolerant. Buddha even ask them to discard his teaching if it is not helpful to them. How more self assured can a religious founder be?
So it is like chicken and egg? You are like that so you end up elsewhere and not you ended up elsewhere and now you are like that?Originally posted by HENG@:i would say my opening up of my mind to a different social idea begin in Sg. why and how, I don't know. I've always been quite liberal-minded, and been able to embrace new ways of thinking, so that is probably why towards the end I no longer wanted to live within a society whose ideas are too obselete that I did not agree with anymore.
no i would not call it that. i am already somewhat "like that" so i end up elsewhere, and that further reinforces my being "like that" so that i become even more "like that"Originally posted by casino_king:So it is like chicken and egg? So you end up in the first world... have you ever thought of living in the 3rd or 4th world for a spell? I note you thought of Germany, so from Sg to 1st world (UK) to another 1st world.Originally posted by HENG@:no i would not call it that. i am already somewhat "like that" so i end up elsewhere, and that further reinforces my being "like that" so that i become even more "like that"
oh for the want of a better descriptive phrase![]()
after being in UK, i wouldn't consider Sg 1st world.Originally posted by casino_king:So you end up in the first world... have you ever thought of living in the 3rd or 4th world for a spell? I note you thought of Germany, so from Sg to 1st world (UK) to another 1st world.

I said from Sg to 1st world, I did not say Sg 1st world... just to clarify. In many ways 3rd world countries more 1st world then Sg.Originally posted by HENG@:after being in UK, i wouldn't consider Sg 1st world.
as for 3rd and 4th world, that would depend on my future plans. personally since my desire is to work in the motorsports industry, i don't see how that might fit in with my plans.
I do know what I want in life, so theres no need to try to disuade me otherwise.
true true. i agree.Originally posted by casino_king:I said from Sg to 1st world, I did not say Sg 1st world... just to clarify. In many ways 3rd world countries more 1st world then Sg.
I mean take a break from what you want to do for the rest of your life....
I told you that you are very Buddhist....Originally posted by HENG@:true true. i agree.
hmm.... i dunno why i would want a break from what i wanna do for the rest of my life? I enjoy the industry i'll be entering. to be, thats like taking a break for the rest of my entire life already.![]()
lol. big irony surely.Originally posted by casino_king:I told you that you are very Buddhist....
How to achieve enlightenment? By not trying to achieve enlightenment.
How to work without working? By doing something you truly enjoy.
Irony or not I am telling you like it is.Originally posted by HENG@:lol. big irony surely.![]()
but i am attached to material possessions.Originally posted by casino_king:Irony or not I am telling you like it is.
Buddhism is about deflection; so you do not become attach to it and suffer.
How does one become rich without suffering? By not trying to become rich but becoming good at what you do.
How does one become good at what one does without suffering? By doing what one loves to do.
That is so you and that is so Buddhist.
OK attached to material possesions is not very Buddhist but "smart to get rich doing something u like, and being good at it" is.Originally posted by HENG@:but i am attached to material possessions.
and i do wanna become rich. its just that i've long grasped the idea that it'd be smart to get rich doing something u like, and being good at it.![]()
