as now i am thinking, why should i force myself to study things which i have no interest in..at the present state, i am not relax enough to think of other solutionsOriginally posted by M©+square:Hmm?
You don't need advice. You've already have your practical route selection.
You just need to make a choice.
Now your problem is, you can't make a decision because you're too young?
Or
You're too narrowminded to consider other solutions?
everybody has a weakness which cannot be corrected, but can be covered by that individual's pros..the simple idea is NO one in this World is perfect, so my weakness is IT, the only way i can make my life better is to do Business related.Originally posted by forfun_cash:IT also cannot make it why bother abt business ? i suggest you go become a hooligan and beg for $$ on the streets .. orchard road would be a good place ..
instead of exploring the options that i have when i complete my nsf should i quit poly,Originally posted by choco B:If you're flunking poly and have no motivation to continue, then cut your losses and quit. Go do your NS and explore your options from there.
if U ask me...my choices would be 2,3,1.Originally posted by weijian:actually my primary objective is to ask if its feasible to..
1- drop out of poly
2- finish my nsf asap
3- get a to study for a degree course with 'O' lvl cert (be it overseas or local)
anyppl who can help?
he can get into IT...his 'O' level results shouldnt be too bad...I am not too familiar with the COPs anymore...should be below 18pts?Originally posted by Fey Mae:i dont know if you did badly for O's
Business everyone can do , unless your daddy has a business and will let you take over then you do it , otherwise just prepare to be a clerk or worse unemployed . There are very few who make it far with just a business diploma or degree.Originally posted by weijian:should i study Poly Halfway Dropout & go to nsf straight or should i continue my life in RP?
i like to study business..
but am being forced to study IT in rp due to my poor 'O's so i can only go to RP...right now in yr 2, 1st sem, i have totally no interest in what is happening in the class at all..
everyday i go into the class..fall asleep fast, the problems sucks...
even when it goes to yr 3, where i finally can take business modules, it's still associated with IT.
I like business, but not IT..
if i drop out from RP, i go nsf, 2 yrs later 21, then 3 yrs for degree, 24 is this better or
20 finish rp, 22 out of nsf, 25 finish degree..
of course i need to earn money to study for degree..so it will either + 1 or 2 years after ns, before i can take degree..
advice needed..![]()
currently learning IT related stuff only.Originally posted by Uncle_MooMoo:What are you learning at the moment in IT?
Originally posted by Fey Mae:anyway, if you wanna be an entrepreneur why bother with paper qualifications? ur the boss, who cares if you're o levels or phd? you dont need them to impress potential employers.
i am not out to impress, learning relevant things will reduce the problems i face in an event whereby i set up my own biz, i don't wanna set up a biz without learning the foundation..
however getting back to the practical situation.
i dont know if you did badly for O's due to your lack of discipline to study or that you're really just not study material, because if its the latter you might face more problems in uni (which is alot more difficult than poly level) everyone wanna have a degree for whatever reasons but based on what you want out of your career, evaluate the neccessity of it.
you can opt for another diploma course if IT is not what you wish to do. But unless you have a solid plan in mind you better finish your diploma and get on with it.
do understand you face alot of "loss" for dropping out, and whatever you wish to do, at least it should justify the risks you're taking now. you do seemed to have some idea what you wish to do should you drop the course, but have you actually research or consider carefully what are the cause and effect for your new route - please also ask yourself honestly how confident are you in achieving that. its good to take risks, but if you do not even evaluate the magnitude of it you may be more of a gambler than risk taker.
thanks for reminding me on that
for those who are unsure of themselves and have no definite understanding of the alternatives - then its better to do the norm. at least you get something, not your idea world but at least you survived - like everyone else. life isnt always that beautiful - you do not always get what you want.
Your course??? Modules????Originally posted by weijian:currently learning IT related stuff only.
thanks for ur advise, i think i get what u meanOriginally posted by Xcert:if U ask me...my choices would be 2,3,1.
option 2 might be painful for U...but since U are in year 2...it shows that it can be done...
option 3 is when U really cannot take it in poly.....and before U drop out...go see ur academic tutor or someone to see if U can transfer course...better than dropping out and then try to get in again if ur chances elsewhere dun work out.
and if U sign-on after dropping out from poly...that means U go in NS with 'O' level cert...U cant sign on as officer...max U can go is SISPEC...if U dun sign and just serve out ur NS liability...last time still can "save" 6 months....now cannot liao...so I dun really see the point in doing that for now...
thanks for the advice, at least i have a much clearer idea now why even uni grads with biz degree have to resort to driving taxi (no offence), i try to get at least a dip and shift my degree to double degree in new south wales when i finish my army =)Originally posted by fymk:Business everyone can do , unless your daddy has a business and will let you take over then you do it , otherwise just prepare to be a clerk or worse unemployed . My friend has a business degree and it is bringing her nowhere. My aunt used to employ Business degree holders to be ice cream servers. In the business industry , Finance/Accountancy/IT gives you skills against those who just have a general business degree.
I am not sure what type of IT course it is but get certified in the big enterprise type of programs like SAP/3, Oracle etc and programming . If possible , learn SAS/Stata - those are statistical software . Those give you a head start in front of others because big corporations run on those.
My advice just do your IT diploma - if you do well enough - go for IT/business degree. It will stand you in good stead to have a skill and a degree in place. Then do an MBA if you have the capacity to do so. Or else I would not worry about some business degree.
Another option which I do not recommend is do your O level again . I don't think it is a good idea. External degrees are not recommended either.
In addition , for GOOD overseas universities, it is hard to get into their commerce/business courses through their foundation college. If you don't do well in the foundation course , you would have to do it in some second tier/third tier university which renders you worse off if you return to Singapore and for the price you pay , it isn't worth the investment.
I don't know your situation but I was forced to take up a diploma I didn't like because my parents threaten to cut me off financially although I could qualify for biotech which I wanted badly . In the end , I just started building on what I have and what I can do after graduation - I studied hard for a diploma I didn't even fancy then I did a degree based on my diploma's discipline . What I found out , with one degree , especially when you do extremely well, it open doors for you to get to where you want. I can tell you it took me long but the feeling is all worthwhile when you finally hit the mark after going around a brickwall.
Besides , my skills in the diploma allows me to be employed elsewhere or back into my old jobs if anything happens or maybe if I hate my boss ( which I don't haha) . It doesn't mean just because I hit the mark , I will give up what skills I know because those are transferable.
Moral of the story from an older person :
in life , always have 2 exit routes open . When one closes , you run out the other and open 2 more doors.
Never mind if you don't like it , bide your time and plan carefully.
Make use of what you have even if you hate it.
give up.Originally posted by weijian:i try to get at least a dip and shift my degree to double degree in new south wales when i finish my army =)

No...that means. I give up on you.Originally posted by weijian:why ask me to give up?
since pure degree in biz is quite useless, then getting a double degree for Biz & Financial in new south wales in Singapore is possible what,
i don't see the idea why u tell me to give up?
yah IT is very broad stroke, I'm not sure about RP's current syllabus but if you tell us what modules you're doing, we can advise you better.Originally posted by M©+square:Your course??? Modules????![]()
