Well, I think planning the time table is hard but is a seperate entity to predicting the time traveled...Originally posted by sbst275:I put it simply, planning the bus timetable is not as easy as you think
As for SMS, it cost millions to implement it, even so, it would be very complicating
Aren't you contradicting yourself? Isn't the timetable completed with the travelling time + the driver's break/ meal?Originally posted by MohamedF:Well, I think planning the time table is hard but is a seperate entity to predicting the time traveled...
And... maybe a customer service call is easier than an sms...
As I've said, scheduling the buses is for the long termOriginally posted by pouncy:Can do real time tracking what.
If im not wrong the ezlink system is monitored by GPS system ?
They have this info display in the bus that shows where you are ? i dunno how long its been in testing stages. Seems like forever.
I think if they really wanted to implement a tracking system it would be very easy with all the technology available today.
We all know the public transport especially buses are not doing the best they can to provide the best service...
Come onOriginally posted by pouncy:Why are the schedules for buses static when the traffic conditions is a variable factor.
Obviously the scheduling technique is not suited for customer information. Its more like for the bus driver. When to leave the interchange and when to reach the destination by ? Im not so sure about this, im not a driver.
Anyway even if a real time tracking system is implemented by our bus companies in singapore, i cant imagine how inaccurate it would be.
Afterall our EZ Link system is the lamest transport system ive seen. Its programming is really "expert"
Eg. When you buy a bus concession on 1st may. and you realise u want to buy a mrt concession on the 3rd of may. But wait! you cant. Cos the system doesnt allow that. You have to buy both at the same time or wait for the bus pass to finish den buy the mrt pass. ( i experienced this personally)
So unless there are some radical changes done to the Technology departments of our bus companies, we can expect not to know when the busses are coming.
Because..... Traffic conditions are not predictable.HAHA![]()
They've tried befOriginally posted by pouncy:huh ? sorry friend. I think you are not fully understanding what im saying.
im talking about a passenger information system where the passenger can see how long the bus will take to reach the bus stop.
Like how many bus stops or minutes is a certain bus away from the bus stop you are waiting at.
What has their profit to do with this? If there's no profit they can forget abt serving youOriginally posted by pouncy:the bomb cost more then the millions of profits public transport companies are reporting every year ?? sigh..
Open source ? Maybe try to give contracts to IT companies with real talent instead of those who are run by people with connections to the government ?
I think you mean increase the frequency...? Encountered too often.. One 'interesting' thing is that SBS always tell the public what problems they have and need to increase fare etc.. But have they seriously taken into consideration of OUR PROBLEMS...??Originally posted by PaulSmith:Have anyone of you come across waiting for public bus for 25 min coming to half an hour? I call up and query for the bus frequency. The customer service just replies me that all buses are in high demand at that time and they will take note of my problem.
I find that they should cut short the frequency. How can they let passenger to wait for almost half and hour and they keep increasing bus fare.
