As i had posted before, my intention is to do away with the wedding banquent.
and have a lunch buffet instead.
Straight after the Solemninsation and the "Jin Cha" ceremony.
But after some initial calculation...both sides(me and g/f) have guests adding up to around 180 odd people...
So my concern is will it be a chaotic situation???
You guys think is it Do-able???
Anybody have any similiar experience?
Please share???

Hotel poolside isnt cheap.
Then there is decorations for the pool and so on. From Marquee for bad weather to decorations of the ballroom in case of rainy weather.(if the ballroom is next to the pool). To the security officers telling hotel guest not to use the pool because of your function.....those unhappy hotel guest will be cursing your wedidng instead.
Then issues about where the food is place, where the guest can sit and whether a stage is needed for the soleminsation to maybe the entertainment.
The logistics is harder and its like mostly having to pay in cash for that few minutes you really need.
You will need a wedding planner for this.
Poolside is over-rated, cos Singapore weather really isnt suitable for an afternoon outdoor do... Imagine, you, your wife to be and your family all sweating buckets and cursing under their breath at the July Sun or the sudden humidity of the rain showers. -

Your guests are dear friends and family who will witness you getting married, be part of the occassion, share in the happiness, have a good meal together and have time for chitchat and catching up at leisure.
Why do you need entertainment?
It's not a show leh. JMO. -

You should calculate, how much you spend monthly, how much you save money, see which expenses can you currently cut down on to save more and maximise your savings.
Here's a method which i last time learnt : Collect this numbers
1) Your desinated amount needed for Solemnisation
2) Your monthly savings per month
Step)
divide the 2 and you will get how many more months you need to save for just the solemnisation and ROM
Note) but don't forget, you still have marriage expenses, house loan etc to count in.

If you are going to have more than 100 people, gathering around the pool site might be an issue.
Perhaps you can consider only inviting family members and closed friends only to the solemnisation if you insist having the solemnisation at the pool site. After the solemnisation, you can move on to another venue for your "c0cktail" party (buffet lunch) where you can invite the rest of your friends to.
How about just hire a hall where you can accommodate a big turn-out? The set up will be simple... you just need a big long table for all the food and drinks etc and chairs along the hall for your guests to sit whenever/wherever they want.
Most of the people will probably stand and chat with friends most of the time anyway. If possible, have some space where you can turn it into a dance floor for people to dance.
To minimise chaos, it's best to have a program you can stick to (your guests don't have to see this program, just your MC/DJ on that day to make the appropriate announcement) at the c0cktail party including:

I still wouldnt recommend a pool.
Imagine the smell of chlorine warfting up to everyone's noses.
Are you going to be living at a Condo with a pool? That may be much easier to co-ordinate.
Cheapest of course is to do it at your family home. Decorate up the place, have the relatives over to witness the soloemisation as well as the jin cha ceremony.
Then have catered food at the house.
Another couple friend did it at their new HDB flat. And the food was personally prepared by the bride the night before.
Some of us guests helped out by heating up the food and was there early to help with the decorations of the place.
Roughly 80odd persons turns up, most of us the friends of the couples. Some of us stayed late to help clean up too. -

I always suggested for folks to buy/tailor make simple gowns. Try City Plaza, there is lots of seamtress to choose from. And Tailors too. And cheap too. $200 for a gown and another $100+ for a full suit for guy.
And florist for your garden and the bouquet, try those neighbourhood shops or flower gardens nursery lah.
Veils, gloves, heels and even hair decorations are easily available if you borther to do some shopping at Arab Street, City Plaza, Katong Shopping Centre & any Sinma Jewellery Shops. Katong Shopping Centre Basement got a shop that does really pretty fanciful cheongsums also.
Since you are doing a garden do. You might want to consider getting some amatuer photographer to capture your actual day then to want to pose pose pose with those fake smiles in a studio.
Try a makeover studio if you have to. Afterall, these pictures arent useful except for putting into your wallet. The rest of those bridal packages albums will be rusting in your storeroom the moment your first baby arrived. -

The problem with catered lunch.
Is that they never have enough drinks! Drinks always runs out before your party really started.
And make sure the bozz of tat catering company is always on hand.
You dont want to get into a arguement with some teenage waiter with his: Bozz only tell us to bring this amount of drinks. Bozz busy elsewhere.
I tell you, anytime I hear that, I will never ever utilized those kinda caterers anymore. And there is such in multiples in Singapore.
Make sure they standby 4 more containers of drinks.
Food wise, get a tasting done first. And check your guest for allergies, restrictions and get them to give you boxes to 'ta pao'. And always delay their time to collect back their utensils. You dont want them to clear the food way before your last guest has his fill of the food and drinks.
