u need a woman, or twoOriginally posted by Cystaire:I've been feeling down lately.
As a young man I was eager to make my mark in the world. I don't want to be another nameless face in the crowd.
But the more I learn about the world, the less I understand what is going on.
Take for example creativity and invention. Do you see an image of a playful person tinkering with gadgets?
In the real world, invention is a lawyer's game. IP lawyers, ding-donging with patent office lawyers, greedy capitalists and powerful industrialists. Arguing over the tiniest legal details that can make them super-rich.
Recently I have decided to give up trying to understand anything. I'll just respond to society like a zombie.
Making a difference is near impossible. Society, the global economy... everything is controlled by powerful people and organizations and forces that are far beyond the abilities of individuals.
Why does anyone even try? Everything is meaningless.
its all a choice.Originally posted by Cystaire:I am feeling very old and very stupid. All that hype about knowledge and creativity and passionate and enthusiasm is completely bullshit.
Only money, influence and power is real - people who understand this from the get-go are far, far ahead. They usually find much self-confidence and happiness too.
Lawyers and bankers rule the world, they always have, always will.

You are hinting that I would still put myself at the bottom of that social group, because the frame of reference has changed.Originally posted by M©+square:Let's say, you have a name and certain amount of influence and power.
Where would you place yourself at in the society?
I try, but I cannot. I dream of big and absurd things, I cannot stop dreaming.Originally posted by Skibi:Just be content.![]()

It depends on whether I can make a difference or not. Or if it is yet another elaborate power structure trap where everyone is stuck anyway.
I am not disputing that the problem is with me, you know. Or maybe I'm just growing up/old.
lol why u want to learn about the world? this world have so many things to learn about...not everything is meaningless.Originally posted by Cystaire:I've been feeling down lately.

Thanks for your show of empathy!Originally posted by binarynwitz:Weird to see someone feeling the same way as I do.
It's like, the more you know, the more you realise how little you can actually do. The more you learn, the more you start to feel that there is too much corruption in the world, and that you're simply too tiny as compared to the universe, to try to make a difference.
You start to get disillusioned about the world, because you think that there's nothing in this world that's worth your notice.
I think it's all part of growing up. When you're young, we all have ambitions. To be a lawyer, a police, a teacher, etc.
Then, as you grow, you start to understand, you start to think. Then, you see the real world for the first time. Then, slowly, you start to doubt yourself. Be a lawyer? I need to have good grades in English, need to study for very long. Be a police? Might die anytime; and what's the point of catching the bad guys anyway? Be a teacher? Alamak, the students nowadays are so troublesome. No thanks!
Then slowly, you start to lose track of yourself, start to feel that the world is too dark.
You just need to see the world from another perpective. Light cannot exist without darkness. While you might be too small to make a change to the world, why not start making a change for yourself, and the people around you?
Start by doing some volunteer work; help the elderlys. Start making a change to their life. While the world is controlled by politicians, and businessmen, there is still people out there who needs your help, and whom you can make a difference to.
Single that group of people out, and make a difference to them.
And while you might seem too insignificant, you can direct that feeling into doing two things.Originally posted by Cystaire:Thanks for your show of empathy!
I think you understand that in this world it takes a lot of effort to make very tiny (often insignificant) changes, if any. No matter how passionate or hardworking you are, all of your efforts may come to nothing.
I think you are right that being nicer to your fellow man is a small way to make a difference.
It's just disillusioning to see how a quick turn of events from the people and organizations of power can negate the efforts of many ordinary people.
