I think you understand that in this world it takes a lot of effort to make very tiny (often insignificant) changes, if any. No matter how passionate or hardworking you are, all of your efforts may come to nothing.
I think you are right that being nicer to your fellow man is a small way to make a difference.
It's just disillusioning to see how a quick turn of events from the people and organizations of power can negate the efforts of many ordinary people.
I am insignificant but I am happy doing what I do . I know I have contributed something to make someone's life a little better somewhere. I may be just a nameless face in the crowd but I know who I am , what I like doing and I have people who love or respect me for who I am - that makes a big difference to me. I also know that when I have abit of power to do a change for the better - I will try to push for it and if it does not work out, I tried my best.Originally posted by Cystaire:Thanks for your show of empathy!

hmm if u dun try .. u will never noe the outcomes .. for example if there is 999,999 people trying .. and they fail to get what they want .. n if u dun give up n continue tryin .. u might suceed in gettin what u wan .. miracles do happen =]Originally posted by Cystaire:I've been feeling down lately.
As a young man I was eager to make my mark in the world. I don't want to be another nameless face in the crowd.
But the more I learn about the world, the less I understand what is going on.
Take for example creativity and invention. Do you see an image of a playful person tinkering with gadgets?
In the real world, invention is a lawyer's game. IP lawyers, ding-donging with patent office lawyers, greedy capitalists and powerful industrialists. Arguing over the tiniest legal details that can make them super-rich.
Recently I have decided to give up trying to understand anything. I'll just respond to society like a zombie.
Making a difference is near impossible. Society, the global economy... everything is controlled by powerful people and organizations and forces that are far beyond the abilities of individuals.
Why does anyone even try? Everything is meaningless.
come learn from him. LaughingYes Long live Marxism, Stalinism, Maoism All communism
While what you say is true, it's also an undeniable fact that the place you try to realise your dreams could potentially(in fact, it almost always does) limit what you can achieve.Originally posted by tick tickle ticklish:and i have to disagree with you that invention is a lawyer's game. think about bill gates, warren bufett, george soros, olivia lum. they were in no way powerful business people when they started out, they had no financial muscle and zero bargaining power, but look at where they stand now. Although the rich does gets richer due to access to better education and resources, there are some notable exceptions of wealthy industrialists who managed to rise to the top despite having to start from scratch.

Thanks for this story, and for appreciating my meaningless poem.Originally posted by DeadPoet:Hello Cystaire,
Sorry I am unable to give you much help since I have my own problems too. But I do hope you will feel slightly better after reading this story.
-------------------------------------
As the old man walked down a Spanish beach at dawn, he saw ahead of him what he thought to be a dancer. A young man was running across the sand rhythmically, bending down to pick up a stranded starfish and throw it far into the sea. The old man gazed in wonder as the young man again and again threw the small starfish from the sand to the water. The old man approached him and asked why he spent so much energy doing what seemed a waste of time. The young man explained that the stranded starfish would die if left until the morning sun.
“But there must be thousands of miles of beach and millions if starfish. How can you efforts make any difference?”
The young man looked down at the small starfish in his hand and as he threw it to safety in the sea, he said, "It makes a difference to this one.”
You are most welcome.Originally posted by Cystaire:Thanks for this story, and for appreciating my meaningless poem.![]()

Thanks for your advice. I agree that my intelligence is affecting my morale. I would rather be less clever and more lucky.Originally posted by Bontakun:I tink you are trapped by your own intelligence (well I read only 2 of your threads, da "impossible" thing and this one). You are stuck in your own loop hole.
How about this: are you looking for your purpose in life? Do you want to be ALIVE instead of merely existing on mother Earth?
I do not have the answers you are looking for, but I believe we all can help you identify some of the issues you can address.
Don't worry... When the time is here, you would know...Originally posted by Cystaire:Thanks for your advice. I agree that my intelligence is affecting my morale. I would rather be less clever and more lucky.
But in spite of my intelligence I clearly lack the wisdom to direct it towards meaningful courses. I haven't worked out what "meaningful" means yet. So far I have only been listening to what other people think "meaningful" is, and their views have been very inconsistent and often downright contradictory.
When I find it (a few years or a lifetime) I will know what my purpose is.
