I'm 16.
Having my post-O'level holidays now; not working.
I come from a family of 5- 2 older bros and I'm the youngest girl. Sometimes I think things come too easily for me. It's like, I want what, I get what.
I don't need a job 'cos my Dad isn't keen on the idea. Last year I tried to get a job but he said "I'll pay you double of what you'll be getting there".
The thing is... Whenever I see my friends working (most of them are), I feel quite useless. I mean, they have that ability to earn their own $ and don't have to depend on parents, and most of them come from families that aren't as blessed, and maybe facing financial difficulties, but they are still able to overcome all this, including the stress etc! And me? I'm their age, good family/environment/no problems but I feel like I'm not as capable as them.
Sometimes I wonder what's the meaning of life. It's like so pointless. I feel like the people around me have something to live for. They wake up in the morning and have to work/go for a meeting/plan a presentation etc. But me? I wake up in the morning, sit up on my bed and think, "What should I do today?" Shopping? Did that yesterday. Go for some fine dining? Did that yesterday too (you get what I mean).
All these was fun at first but as the days pass the novelty of it all wears off. I feel like a sloth, I lack the drive.
What are my goals...
My ambitions...
I feel rather useless...

do somethg meangful w yr life. if yr dad wont let you work. thn volunteer yr services to help the aged, the mentally handicapped or even at spca.
since you do not require financial supplements. im sure emotional reward will be great for you. -
u better NOT get a BF either...hes just gonna be another servant of you..

. servant as in? i'll never let anyone except my parents pay for me and i rarely ask people, even my bf to do anything for me.
on the contrary, i've been trying to do things myself.
i hate depending on people, that's why i even feel like that in the first place. -

Be Glad For what you have in your Family...Like you said...your friends are not that fortunate...But you are Fortunate...than them...
I am the same example...I am happy for this is what i have...
But beware friends who see your life is like that...they won't like it... Tend to bring
you down... They will tell you all sorts of Nonsense...Such as you have this have that...You shouldnt have more...But still be glad for what you have... Fuck care and pursue your own goals...
You don't need to work or do something in life just to feel capable...As long as you have a Pair of hands and legs...And you're not handicapped...You're damm Capable...You work is to earn money for your own usage...Not to show how capable you are...
People are competitive, Life itself is Competitive...yes we all have to admit that is a fact...But Competitiveness at your age or Mine...Is only for people who has no direction in life...

you're still young, you got many years to "feel useful" because by then you will need to work. i came from a decent family whereby my parents didnt wanna expose me to work too soon (haha) i accept that and simply put my holidays spare time to do something else. you can always enrich yourself with learning new skills with self-help books or anything.
all your skills you equip yourself with will also prepare you for working life in future. I do believe getting a job also gains more experience and is actually a good thing but perhaps your parents are being protective, they wanted the best for you and you ought to thank them for giving you that chance to have time to do meanignful things for yourself.
when you're old enough and has to work, you will wish you're still 16 by then. -
Your life is so good, dun have to earn money yourself. Somemore, you are a gal, if money not enough, can always open legs wide wide and got money come in.

just cos u're not doing anything meaningful now doesn't mean u're useless. there may be more meaningful things for u to do in your future...and it's not like u dun have a purpose now..i mean there's things u can plan now like what poly/jc or where u're going to after o lvls, what u wanna study....u know like try to prepare life for your nxt stage of education.
i shld feel more useless than u....my parents dun really make much money and i can go out to work but i'm too shy and put off working...... -

but my condition more sian than u arh i got a full time job even sat and sun also must full day cannot hang out with my friends then the job place totally no gals one only those nerd nerd computer freaks and some aunties working there. i wake early in the morning everyday with the first day word: SIAN!
imagine working whole day without a girl or even some1 near our age to talk to.ZZzz my friends all commented that i'd be too stupid to quit such a good paying job so.... my condition now is like im stuck deep in a piece of sh1et. -

I tried it and it gives pages and pages of possible places to volunteer at, based on your interests.
It's a great place to start volunteering. Why not try it?

i didn't read through all the posts, so sorry in advance if i repeated what someone said.
maybe you could take up a sport? like, join a sport that you're passionate in(e.g. sailing, archery) and who knows, you may qualify for the national team. after you come back from competitions, if you win, it'll be a sense of achievement right? then at least life has some meaning.
