Sigh... What is the world becoming when someone whine about his 'bad?' result. I say be contented that u have the chance to (because the result is not confirmed yet, you might not get in
so quit whining/indirectly boasting and start praying instead) get into one of the top JC. You know what? One of my friend who wanted to get into CJC but ended up with result that couldn't even get into a JC. Nope, not even the so-called lowest ranked JC.
The worst thing is he's not even interested in any of the courses in Poly (Well, he plans to get into JC from start and I thought he could get in too). So, he ended up registering for MI (Milennia Institute) instead.
As for me, I don't plan into getting into JC from the beginning and I'm contented with my result since its way off my expectation (even if its not, I have nothing to say, its just that my ability is up to that standard or I'm lazy and not putting enough efforts).
I say life is full of unexpected, just be contented with what u have. Maybe I'm being too simple.

eeks, come on ... you're past sec school days, but here's an example of smt that looked like it was gonna be horrible, and it turned out to be better than my friend could imagine.
she wanted to go to NUS high. they didnt accept her.
she came back, took a few more tests ...
and she ended up getting into RGS.
so what if you dont make it into RJ. yeah, sure, it might be awesome, but by going there, you might miss out on a better opportunity. you might never meet people who may eventually mean the world to you ... -

In fact, this isn't restricted to the lives of the average joe as there're countless examples of successful people who have gone down this road. For one(if you follow football), you might wish to know that Zinedine Zidane was turned down by both Marseille and Algeria in his youth, only to end up playing for Juventus, Real Madrid and France - and winning the biggest prizes in the game with some of the biggest teams around.
I need help : On a more serious note, what exactly do you see yourself doing a decade from now(let's work on the assumption you'd get)? Where do you see yourself working/studying in the more distant future? -

Did you ever spare a thought for the other thousands of students who scored nothing close to yours?
Some cry and beg just for a place in the bottom jcs, yet you are here whining about something which is nothing to be worried about in the first place.

There are Many successful and prominent people around you today; they don't come from RJC.
Consider yourself lucky to have a JC to study.

Go poly lah....numerous engineering courses for you. Just do well in your poly and you will have a headstart compared to te goons from JC who eventually go Enginnering in Uni... -

Your future does not depend so much on which JC you go to. It depends a lot more on your mindset and work ethic. You can do great things.... but only if you choose to have an open mind and be receptive to your surroundings.
If not going to RJC depresses you, and going to ACJC fills you with dread, then I say you deserve neither of them.
I realise that we are being harsh on you... but we ain't bullsh*tting you, either. If you choose to continue having this mindset when you enlist in two years' time, you're really going to be on the losing end. Trust me on this. -

2 years ago, i got into ac and came across many rj wannabes.
Some accepted their situation and made the best out of it. Others whined about it for 2 years and ended up screwing themselves over. -

VJ wannabes but ended up in TJ/MJ
TJ wannabes but ended up in MJ

TPJC wannabes but ended up in SR/YJ/IJ
JC wannabes but ended up in poly/MI
and in most cases, those "hardcore wannabes" who cant fit into the school culture ended up screwing themselves. -

For a start, it'd help if you defined what constitutes a "decent university" to you.
More importantly, what sort of a career do you see yourself having? Mind, not everyone trained as an engineer would like to do that for a living - I'm a living proof . If you see yourself working in Singapore in the long-term, are you looking at a career in the civil service or private sector? If you see your future elsewhere, where exactly do you have in mind? Answers to these questions will go a long way towards dictating what you should do, really.
Afterall, it might not be the JC issue that's the root of the problem here. If you can't answer the questions above, you might want to consider consulting a career counsellor...

personally i feel you should think of what you like to do now. as in what you like to study and all. JC style or poly style. but given your points seems like you don't wanna "waste" your points and decide to enter a JC.
thinking of your rice bowl now ain't gonna really help you. so what if you wanna be an engineer now. 10 years down the road what if the prospect of being an engineer isn't gonna be good. are you still insisting to be an engineer? be flexible.
study the stuffs you like, excel and bit by bit you'll eventually narrow down your vision and choose the ideal job with good results. -

It's true that I don't really know what I want to do. I've only been to RJC once, but I like the place a lot.
Maybe I'm being extremely shallow here by admitting that I want to go in mostly becase of the name. But surely the reputation of RJ couldn't have come from nothing, right? There has to be some substance inthe place, the culture.

I agree that the reputation of RJC couldn't have come from nothing. But the reputation of the other JCs didn't get spontaneously generated, either. So what if you go to RJ? Would that make you a better person? What if I told you that my own brother was an RI/RJC alumni? I kid you not. But is he any better than people from other JCs? I don't think so. Want to know his A Level results? A,A,A,C for Phy/Chem/Maths C/Econs (in that order). On top of that he got A2 for GP.
I am a TJC alumni. Want to know my results for the exact same combination? A,A,A,A, A1.
I'm not trying to brag, and my humble apologies if it seemed that way. But did the fact that my brother went to RJC instantly give him better examination results? Nope. Did it instantly make him a better person? Nope, he's the same old guy I've known my whole life.
Clothes do not make a man; it is man who makes the clothes. Being in RJC does not instantly make you a better person. It is you who makes the school you are in a better school.
And the fact that 'going to AC doesn't exactly fill you with dread shows that at a lower baser level, you do feel disgusted at having to go there instead of RJC. Come on, the only person you're kidding here is you yourself.
So my conclusion? Yes, you are being extremely shallow by wanting to go to RJC mostly because of the name. Please do not stain the name of our country's founder.
