i am really terrified now. since the feb till now i've been hearing and reading all sorts of horror stories of a'level students scoring straight As but are still unable to get into their course. stories of people who do so badly they cant study in singapore.
perhaps it is because the a'level class of 2005-2006 belongs to the dragon year? so the competition is tough...?
do you think this trend might not settle down and instead continue with the a'level class of 2006-2007? -

I read in the papers of one woman complaining that her son is a straight A student and is not accepted in NUS medicine. Having this knowledge is power. You are now aware what you must do.
I think there is not much point worrying. Instead spend that time in your study. What is important is you try your best. Sometimes, you don't have to score all As to have a bright future.

can always study in overseas uni or go poly.

for the guys born in dragon yr and has to serve 2 yrs NS, most probably they would have to apply for the 2009 and 2010 intake. So the university for 2008 intake would be safer to apply for. whew, i can only console myself by saying that.
my tuition teacher student scored straight As and can't even get into accountancy! omg, thats like, my teacher was kinda stunned also. blame it on the dragon year. So if next time, never ever let ur kids be born in the dragon year, competition is much fiercer. gd lor, since some of them like dragon so much, dragon v fierce de mah, let them fight for uni places until they bleed. -

but then again, the newspaper reports are 1 of the few isolated reports lah. my other friends got in with no problems. and in the reported articles, they opted for medicine, law, all that very prestigious faculty mah, the places so limited, and somemore the smartest people fight to go in there, of course with AAA can't compete with AAAA mah. This is a case of "kiang jiu ho, mai gei kiang!!!"

Dun need to worry.
Just go study hard and get your 4 H2 As + GP A (or A for KI if you are taking it). Then H3 get distinctions.
If you get to there, you do not need to worry so much liao.
Anyway just study lor. It is only the dragon batch parents kicking up a fuss lar. Remember what happened during 2000 PSLE? Complain maths difficult, science difficult etc. In the end I see the given qns I do not even think it's difficult. In fact I think 2001 PSLE maths even harder than their 'very difficult' maths paper.
Mostly isolated cases here and there. Some straight As but GP or CCA record or PW bad, uni will not accept, cos nowadays straight As not everything.
Whatever, just cast these distractions aside. Do your best can liao. -

dragon males wouldnt apply for 2008 university intake, cos they have to serve a minimum of a yr and a half or b4 being allowed to disrupt to enter university. So, most probbaly is 2009 or 2010. So no matter what, you have to make it for this yr a'levels. (me too). if not, caught in the dragon vicious competition will die jia lat jia lat.

Rather, you should just channel all your energies into what you can control - your own academic performance!
