q1qq9, is the quote too abstruse to comprehend?
Btw, that quote from the bible was meant for you but it seemed like you missed the gist of the message..
I'm asking you to be more tolerant towards other religions.
Even if you disagree with the teachings in the bible, I suggest you put all religious issues aside and read it with the intention to learn something new.
You are right to say that a change in TS's mindset and lifestyle can aid the cause, but I'm most disinclined to acquiesce that religion provides no significant help to TS's plight.
Religion helps.
Before you go on with your interminable disparage on the insignificance of religion, I want to explain, from a psychological POV, how and why this is so.
I hope this post will help broaden your perspective.
TS, this is relevant to you. I recommend you to read as well.
Listen to what I have to offer and don't be so quick to put-down religion.
Firstly, religion does far more than just helping a person to lead a richer, fuller, happier life. It brings spiritual values. It gives a person faith, hope, courage. It banishes tensions, anxieties, fears and worries. It helps to create for oneself "an oasis of peace amidst the whirling sands of life.
Prayer, for example, is a form of meditation and is pretty effective in soothing the tension and stress in one's body. It normally helps the person relax emotionally and physically. Relaxing the body is a way to relieve stress, a way to help equalize things better within the body
Today, the newest of sciences - psychiatry - is teaching what Jesus taught. Why? Because psychiatrists realize that prayer and a strong religious faith will banish the worries, the anixieties, the strains and fears that cause more than half of all our ills. ( I know they practice this in countries like U.S. but I don't know for singapore)
Even if you are not a religious person by nature ,even if you are an out-and-out skeptic- prayer can help you much more than you believe, for it is a practical thing.
What do I mean by practical?Prayer fulfils these three very basic psychological needs which all people share, whether they believe in god or not:
1. Prayer helps us to put words exactly what is troubling us. It is almost impossible to deal with problem while it remains vague and nebulous. Praying, in a way, is very much like writing our problems down on paper.
2. Prayer gives a sense of sharing of our burdens, of not being alone. Few of us are so strong that we can bear our heaviest burdens, our most agonizing troubles, all by ourselves. Sometimes our worries are of so intimate a nature that we cannot discuss them with our closest relatives or friends. Then prayer is the Answer. Any psychiatrist will tell us that when we are pent-up and tense, and in agony of spirit, it is therapeutically good to tell someone our troubles. When we can't tell anyone- we can always tell god.
3. Prayer puts into force an active principle of doing. It's a 1st step toward action. I doubt of anyone can pray for some fulfilment, without benefitting from it - in other words, without taking steps to bring it to pass.In prayer, human beings seek to augment their finite energy by addressing themselves to the infinite source of all energy. When we pray, we link ourselves with the inexhaustible motive power be apportioned to our needs. Even in asking, our human deficiencies are filled and we arise strengthened and repaired. Whenever we address God in fervent prayer, we change both soul and body for the better. It could not happen that any man or woman could pray for a single moment without some good result.
I believe there is truth in the words:
A little philosophy incline man's mind to atheism; but depth in philosophy bring men's minds about to religion.
Amazing how a scientific explanation of the human psychology on religion can lead to a war of words pertaining to christianity.Originally posted by qlqq9:just don't give me the crap lah! Don't use your bible to communicate to me!! It is futile!!!
To each his own, don't impose your values, belief, and whatever on people. WE have our freedom to choose. Tell you, christianity is very damn impractical, unrealistic, so don't attempt to use your bible and religion to pester and persuade people to accept. I hope I don't need to repeat myself again. If you christians wanna people believe in the bible and in prayer, practise what you preach, be a living walking bible to everyone in your lives, don't just talk. Talk is cheap!!! Don't try christianity on me I have enough of the bullcrap of it already please be merciful to give me and others a break! If not I will inform the relevant whatever that you are forcing people to believe in your religion. OUr govt her support freedom in the choice of religions.
relax. nothing is going to happen.Originally posted by teraexa:Hey Mods, I think if this thread is not regulated more tightly, a flame war regarding religion will break out sooner or later.
We need to keep to the topic started by TS.
Beside TS seems to be missing. Why are we fretting over his problem?
This whole uproar, in my personal view, is ultimately futile and unnecessary.
Time to cool down guys, theists, atheists or those in between.

after 75 posts you make your second post? I thot you clone... and prey prey one...I like to give the benefit of doubt to TS. Since, we do not know exactly the problem-situation, we should not try to come up with a prognosis. At best, we can try to answer the question posed. TS was quite right - discussing religion here is not going to help. I detect that TS has certain expectations of Christianity that were not met. Hence, the frustration. We all know that in times of need, we go to higher beings for help but will be greatly dissappointed when there is no result.

So finally you show your true colour!!! I merely was telling you no point quoting bible verses, practise what thebible says be a living walking bible. So this will land me in trouble instead and you called it my insatiable desire to "debunk" the credibility of chrisitianity, it is fine with me if you wanna do anything to me, anyway, you are accountable to your God for whatever actions you take!!Originally posted by royale9:The funny thing is that, its your insatiable desire to "debunk" the credibility of Christianity that will land you in trouble instead.![]()
