Fear of driving, pls help me

by the way this is only the second lesson i had, i am really scare of drving with so many cars, when ever that happens i just go blank.
can somebody give me advise or share similar experience with me ? how do i overcome it ? will more lessons cure ?
The fear is caused by that you dont drive well, and u might ended up hitting any ghost in this month.. but just drive more, it will make u feel more comfortable -
relax just drive normally as usually..ppl see L plate they will give way to u. they are more scared than u.

I was just like u when i started learning driving @ SSDC...
1st few lessons i would stall without fail at least 5+ times...especially on the main road...
It came to a point that my instructor almost gave up on me and said i may have to consider taking Auto instead...
That really discouraged me alot and i told myself to buck up...
So after sum intense practice and going thru the steps in my mind, i cld finally change gears smoothly and drive...my instructor was surprised
It's all about practice and running thru the steps in yur mind...it's not easy but in time you will get it...trust me...dun be afraid to ask yur instructor if u have any doubts...
Somemore u L plate, other road users will definately understand yur situation...
Remember there's still alot more to learn like changing lanes, parking, slope etc. This is just the beginning...dun take it so hard...take yur time to learn...
Once u get yur licence...it'll all be worth the effort!

yeah, when waiting to move off, release abit of the clutch, and at the same time step on the accelerator, den after your car starts moving, you can slwoly release the clutch.

Go practise more in the video arcades and you'll be driving in the F1 when it comes to S'pore!

Anyway don't despair mate, yours is a small problem. All it takes is a little practice and more confidence to be road-worthy. Try to focus when
you are driving and try not to be distracted by the instructor barking beside you. Unfortunately our roads are filled with many irresponsible
motorists. Please do not be discouraged when these ppl honk at you, tailgate you or whatever unpleasant actions. You need to build your
own comfort zone before you can effectively function as a driver. All it takes is some determination and relevant practice.
You will make it!! Good luck
Driving is very fun, but please do not forget your statement of road safety to others and yourself when you drive eventually.

What i mean is that.. just be confident... Why let negative thing inside you?

Sorry man, you're really being pessimistic.. you let excuses like avoiding ppl get hurt while u driving stop u from driving well
Just listen to instructor and drive slow and keep your distance from cars infront you about 2 metres for newbie like you.. then its alrite.. why so afraid of hurting ppl ??
When u drive , u need to feel the fun.. not feel bad... sigh..nvm.. u will learn it slowly and the fear will go away in time.. -
don't worry bout cars behind you.
most if not all, will try their best not to travel behind a L plate. And if they do bang you its 99% their fault.
so don't be afraid of that. almost maybe you'll like to practice more during off peak hours to gain more experience and confidence. -

Instead of stepping on brakes to slow down, I ram the accelerator.
Then I freaked out , released my hands from the steering wheel to cover my eyes !!!!!
Lucky my instructor pull the manual brake.

i really hope to be a skillful and responsible driver.
even when i pass, i hope to go on the road to spread good road manners.
i have seen how ppl lost their lives in a road accident, thus i want to prevent that.
fear i guess it is common, so with more practice i can over come it.

taking cab is a b!tch, some times they are there and sometimes not.
mrt and bus are slow, besides having a licence is another skill that can help me look for a job . -

Its normal for you to be scared. I was scared too man. My engine stall and behind me the car horn,my instructor luckily one happening fellow, bugger lower down window and point at that fellow,fuking funny.
But slowly,i now can drive smoothly.My engine hasn't installed for so long already during lessons already.My test is next month though and i am very prepared.If you scared while moving off from stop,i tell u what to do.
1.While having stopped,for the first few times,after you have stepped in full clutch,release slowly with the other foot pressing the break pedal,release slowly,very slowly till you see your gear stick vibrating.
2.Then when ready to move off,let go your breaks pedal and press your gas pedal till rpm arn 1.5 or smth,try not to look at the metre.
3.Once you press gas,slowly let go your clutch.Do it gently.Then while you press for more gas let go your clutch,don't let go 1 shot.
No need to hurry,remember you are L plate,ppl horn at you, you have every right to stick a middle finger at their faces.
As for your u-turn right, relax. Simply wait for all the cars to move off. You have every right to do so. I think you are afraid people horn at you only. Screw em man. But just take it easy. -

taxi drivers are one of the most inconsiderate around.
majority of em are impatient and reckless. -
try taking lesson in the day time such as weekend(sunday) or p. holiday at the morning around 9 to 11am. there willl be less car on the road and you can have more clear view.
cos it not working day and bus and big car/lorry is lesser. try it a few lesson and get use to the feeling of the interior eqpts such clutch, brake accelerator movement and the change shift knob/gear.
when u overcome the fear and can touch the eqpts with your feeling... man you can book and drive at any hour you want from there...... -

indeed...when i started my driving lessons on Jun my first lesson...i was quite scared to accelerate cos scared of banging other cars....also cos that time i cant coordinate clutch well with acclerator....but then with more lessons and with more practices on outside road....i become more ''daring'' to drive...to the extent of instructor having to tell me to slow down.....slow down...Originally posted by ditzy:More lessons will definitely cure.
