Guess that is cos not as many people who hate medicine studied medicine as compared to the number who hate reading do law. And probably, all if not most of the people who are terrified of blood would have dropped out in medical school.Originally posted by rmyfrm:If you really want a rewarding career, do medicine. I have yet to meet a single doctor who even dislikes their career. 12 of my friends went on to do medicine; you never hear them complain, or hear stories about how their colleagues complain about their careers - only the long hours; as compared to law - I'm surrounded by people moaning about their jobs and how much they hate it (in Singapore, and now overseas where I'm based).

I guess that is the spirit of this forums.
I believe you are at the stage of indecision so dun be shy to approach the rest for a tour of the various institutes.
Have a clearer picture of what they can offer and match with what you expect to learn.
If possible, talk to the students and lecturers or attend one of the lecture.
Life is a long journey.
It is better that you can make a correct choice at this cross road of your life so that you save time by not taking the unnecessary roads.
The number of high-earners for such careers are typically smaller than those for traditionally high-earning ones. I'm not saying that you can't earn big bucks doing design, I'm just saying the chances are more limited.Originally posted by blu_sky:Times have changed. which century are you still living in?
In this age that we are living, there are designers making big bucks. They are making it big even decades ago eg Tommy Hilfiger and Christian Dior (in the 40s and 50s). In this age of opportunities, even a famous hairstylist can earn more than a mediocre lawyer or accountant. Dont believe? Ask our local stylist, David Gan.
Follow your dreams! Harn Harn Chu Zhuang Yuan!Originally posted by mrcoconut:Currently, im in sec5 taking my O's this year.
Recently i told my dad that i wanted to go into an designing course in poly, if not get enrolled into nafa.
At first, i thought he would be able to accept my decision as its my interest and ultimately 'my future'.
But instead he strongly object and wanted me to go into a course that would allow me to bring bread to the table when i get a job.
This really troubles me, as im not the kind of person who's really interested in science and all.
Is it wrong to follow my interest?
Should i let my dad destroy my dream?
what if i was really able to make it big in the art industry, but because of his mentality everything had to be forgo.
trouble sigh
As I have msged Uncertain, Mathematics is not a useless degree. Just like design is not a useless degree.Originally posted by Uncertain:But there are a few things to consider:
Money vs Interest
U definitely won't want to starve due to ur interest pursue...
The fact i take accountancy as my course is not that i like accountancy.. is because i don't like lab work... have some interest in math... But then accountancy is not all about math, it involves a lot more... needs to base ur answer on judgement and all... which is somewhat not taught to us when we are in jc, sec or whatever...
In fact, i want to get a pHD in math but then... i need a undergrad degree from Uni... but then what can this useless degree does? Ur only option is becoming a teacher... which i don't like
Therefore, I take a accountancy and then pursue my interest in math later in my life, maybe getting a degree or do some research on it.
Therefore, do consider ur current position before pursuing ur interest.
Tell him what kind of jobs you can get after you graduate and show him the Poly brochures that speaks of this or newspaper jobs offers.Originally posted by mrcoconut:Currently, im in sec5 taking my O's this year.
