To be honest, the drumming scene here in Singapore isn't very supported. Anyhow, you may take lessons at Yamaha. I never personally took lessons from there but from what I heard, their lessons aren't very effective.Originally posted by Xiao Long Nu:if for classes, go sign up at yamaha.? or go irc channel to know ppl who play drum....then learn frm them?exchange pointers wit them.. use yellow pages as drumset if no money...can learn frm books or magazines...internet...when eating, use chopsticks to play?![]()

You may buy books and video's to slowly pick up skills. The key in drumming, I guess, is independence. That is for your 4 limps to be doing different things at once.
Hahas, trust me, it's normal that your limps fiddle around when you have drumming injected in your life.
Impossible is impossible!![]()
Hmmm, I dont know of any other places. I was basically self-taught. Began playing on my pad for almost half a year. then got a drumset until now.Originally posted by HideX:HahA..![]()

Sure you can ask anything. How old are you btw?
I do go jamming but havent been lately cos most of my kakis are either busy with their commitments or just too busy. I used to jam at weelee just outside aljunied mrt, it's walking distance from my house anyway.
Jamming with a band gives you exposure, you will learn how to communicate with the other instruments e.g playing softer during the verses and accentuating your accents in the chorus. or not over-playing when some other instrument takes the lead.
you can actually see the true personality of someone when you jam with them. those musicians who constantly wanna solo or take the leading role are very selfish and self-centred. while those who give space to others to "show-off" are supposedly more generous.
If I'm not wrong, the Xjapan drummer likes to over-play at times. But still, they're an awesome metal band.
Good luck with your O's, what sch're you from?Originally posted by HideX:Hah

Don't worry to feel awkward, just tell you jamming pals to not expect too much. Then you can try to play some stuff. Remember, everyone has to start somewhere.
I read your thread about you liking some girl. this is a personally experience, i think that having some problem can help you play with more expression and emotion.
Music's bout expression, therefore dont play without groove and feel. it'll be like cooking curry without spices.

The definition of groove has 2 meanings, 1 of which means the kinda beat or rhythm that's repeated every bar. another meaning refers to the ability to play with groove, e.g playing in such a funky way that it can make people dance or shake their assesOriginally posted by HideX:Its time for question...heheWat is the meaning of groove and funk and jazz ??
Aren't they link together ??Is Linear drumming useful ??
I haf been practising it as warming upI cant do a roll of 16.. I manage 8 stroke..sumtime 12...
Juz nt sure whether I haf gt 16ornt ?
Do I need a metro!@#$% of device to keep timing ??
Originally posted by Hawaiian Koa:The definition of groove has 2 meanings, 1 of which means the kinda beat or rhythm that's repeated every bar. another meaning refers to the ability to play with groove, e.g playing in such a funky way that it can make people dance or shake their assesSo naturally, styles like R&B and just bout any club beat needs Groove!
Funk is a genre of music. It basically refers to a band playing in a very upbeat style, and the main attraction is mainly the rhythm section- bass guitar and drums.
Jazz is also a genre but it has a very wide scope. It's said to be the hardest genre in music to play because there's seldom any preperation- lotsa improvising. that is, a band comes together to play without rehearsing and just playing whatever they feel on the spot. therefore, the ability to react to changes and knowing every note is very important. Jazz drumming is my favourite, cos it involves alotta dynamics, communication with the other instruments and also spaces to solo. Examples of jazz- Fusion, swing, bossanova, ballad's and etc...
Linear grooves are good cos it helps your limbs and mind coordinate and developing a sense of independence. when done right, it can sound funky too. lotsa club and dance grooves use very carefully accented linear grooves.
If you're talking bout 8th notes and 16th notes rolls, then there's no such thing as 12. 16th note roll is very important, can be applied in many areas. take it slow, a metronome is advised. take note, if you're a right-hander, make sure your left hand produces the same volume as your right.
