I feel like changing course

But I'll be wasting a good $2,300 for 1 entire year.
Plus there is a chance that I will be asked to go into NS immediately.
I am in TP ITO.
I thought it was a good course. Actually, I never had the intention to get in that course. It was my 11th choice. It was a back-up choice. I actually wanted to go into architectual but I missed by 1 point.
Now I find that, Although the course is easy, It's not exactly what I want to learn. I wanna learn business studies if given the chance. I regretted not putting BIT as one of my choice though I may not be even given entry.
I've just finished my first semester.
I do intend to talk to my careperson about it. It's not that I can't cope with it. It's just that my interest does not lie in IT.
I wanna go to University. Because only then, I will be able to pursue what I really want. Which is business. But I don't want to study private. I wanna go into either NUS, SMU or NTU. At least the cert is recognised.
But my first semester's GPA already destroyed the chances. I got 3.19
Now getting into Uni isa big competition. I would probably need a 3.8 to be able to even compete with other applicants. Sigh..
I wish to transfer to a course which is more business-oriented. But time is running out for me. -
i always tell ple.. i can throw away my business diploma already..

Actually you can continue to study n transfer course when u enter uni, as u change now u're wasted ur parent money and ur time.
And when u transfered to biz course u may not score as high as u wish to enter uni. gd luck TS

NUS, SMU or NTU are not easy to enter unless you are the top 4% of poly.
my advice study your course well first then decide. -
BIT and Business Studies not good one, if you want business courses better to concentrate on specialized areas like accounts or banking.

I don't like my school's learning method PBL. You can guess it, only RP uses 100% PBL...
Arghx.. me will be wasting $2,300 x2 of my parents money leh.. Gonna return them once I start working..

Don't waste your time changing course, since you say it is easy, get the best p[possible score/slack but pass/or attend some business courses outside of you curriculum. -

finish everything first then decide. -

but if lets say if u finish this diploma first and do another one, u got a double diploma -
change or not will be your choice ultimately. but i think dun change into a business course cos i think business is not something u can learn academically on papers...... its something u either know or you dun and more than often, the lecturers are non the wiser..... Look at it this way, if they know how to do business why did they end up teaching? Its like the fortune teller who can predict tomorrows winning 4d number but not betting himself......

yr gpa ok la, mine freaking 1.75, need like 3.8 for the rest of my sems to make it 3.5. gg =)

like wat bbb said, business cert is as good as throwing away since not many pple can make use of their knowledge they learn n apply in their job.
somemore NBS is the hardest course to get in unless u r the top student in poly. just ask motoway how much students in her jc studying same course as her.
u shouldnt be hoping to touch the sky when u r just an amateur. instead of whining here n wasting time spending in the forum, why dun u start concentrating on ur tutorial n putting interest in it? -
U must really make up your mind first before changing. And dont be fickle minded.

and few of them quitted 4-5 mth after start course
well , i personally feel that if i ever in poly , i may change course too , becoz inside course so many , easily distracted and lure you to the other course -
You should consult your school dean and administration. Whether can you change course and how do you go around the system. Business degree is general, but what are u planning to major on? Have u done the research on it and its prospect? Don't kick urself when u discover it isn't as rosy as u think it was.
Actually anyone can do business de. You can just hire the business students or accountant to work for u. -

First of all , IT is a skill - alot of businesses are using technology to operate. No point in studying business without a skill like IT, accountancy , economics, banking and finance. There is always bound to be something you don't like in every course but at the end of the day , it might be very useful.
Second of all, a diploma you don't like is never the end of the route. It will be useful later . Think in terms of the wider picture , in fact ...think out of the box. I took up nursing because my parents won't pay for anything else. I used nursing to get to where I want. I did my master in another subject while surviving on nursing. Nursing is still a useful skill for me even though it was never my intention to stay in Nursing. I am dealing with some aspects of health informatics and biostatistics now - and nursing came in useful.
Third of all, local universities are not the only universities you can go to. You can try out for overseas ones or distance learning later. It is what you make out of yourself.

my lecturer told us a story. this guy wanted to change course in yr2 but didnt..
he got 3.9 gpa for his course but changed from his engineering diploma to a business degree..
just hold on.. -
I think the best for you now is to continue with your current course of study. There is a wide range of courses being offered in the polytechnics and whatever you do won't make a big difference. Ultimately, it is just for a piece of paper.
There will be alot more choices you can evaluate while doing your current studies. Take up an additional course you are interested in, or list down some realistic paths you could choose from after you graduate.
I understand you are distressed because you think you are not doing what you are interested in. But interests can be developed! Just focus on doing well, and you'll be fine =) -

yup, not worth changing course liao. It very hard for poly student to change to the course they like. Especially changing to another poly. One of my friend gone through such experience when he change course last year.
He got 13 points for L1R4 O level. And no poly is willing to accept him because they said he already given a chance when he first enter poly. The system work this way, if u are under JAE u are quite safe. But poly half way change course are considered DAE liao. Even my friend got 13 point, he couldnt even get a engineering course in RP. Cos those JAE (those just finished 'O' or quit 'A' half way) are priority. But fortunate for him, he got his course only the day before school term start.
Btw he went to the extend of meeting MP, writing to Edu minister and his sec principal to seek for help.
So TS better dun change course. Good luck then!
