You remind me of a friend, there was a Chinese funeral wake and they were still noisy after 10pm, so he called police.
These days people have low tolerance, don't know why. You see them driving in the streets, abit of jam only start honking already, can't even wait afew minutes. -

I absolutely understand you for during the time after my mum's operation, the sickos upstairs kept making hell of a noise, when I spoke to the sicko evil old woman she denied and thereafter the whole jinx gang from her family - her son the bastard, daughters, daughters-in-law, other sons and grandchildren purposely stood in front of my house and create trouble. They are just bunch of gangster family. They even got relatives overseas to bully us by telling us they are in good position to disturb me and family for they are stayin on the top floor. The old heck's son said he is not working so can afford to disturb me and family the whole day. What crap !!
I advise you to let the neighbour police know about this and see how much they can help. If you call the police, if you are lucky they can be nice to help. Tell your taxi driver neighbour he is not staying in a house whereby there are no neighbours, in HDB flat we are to be considerate to others. -

If the timing allowed for noise is raised to 11:30pm, then you will bear with the noise?
Likewise, you don't have enough money to buy private property, else you will not have to take banging and clanging from neighbours.
I say live and let live, it's not everyday they do this, sometimes it's something pressing they have to settle.
I think common courtesy is needed, even if you confront him, do tell your neighbour in a polite manner, I won't bump into him in the lift, but chances of you bumping into him is very high and it's not very plesant to meet someone whom you have mutual bad feelings. -
Me Neighbour beri bad also...
Everytime I go home I open my door the elder son of my neighbour he will slam the door beri hard...
We never did anything wrong to them we see them we smile at and our family we all sees his father n mother and younger brother we greet each other and even talk with each other...
But after a few years his younger brother came and talk to me and my brother and say we neighbour should compromise with one another...
At that time I was only Primary 6 I do not know what he say I went back to check the dictionary and I know the meaning...
I thought we should be the one to tell them... After that I tell my parents n Siblings until now we never talk to them just smile at them and left until now... for 12 years liao...
They are So unreasonable...

It's best to maintain cordial relationships between neighbours, else later end up like the Joo Chiat case, then big issue liao.
If it's a once in a blue moon kind of inconveniences, should be able to endure lah. Not like they are running a factory every night after 11pm. -

And the reason I'm staying in this cesspit is due to the past, that's why i can't stand the noise if someone is doing something that disrupts my so called "peace and tranquility".
I think its the same for everyone, that one can only really enjoy peace and silence only in the night, cos our competitive society and environment will not allow us to have those feelings during the day, unlike in countrysides.

Most likely the police will take down particulars and give warning lah.
Even with the Joo Chiat case, it was a civil suit.
Some fight these days, the police can't even be bothered to prosecute and ask that the aggrieved party take civil action. -
Just tahan for a few 10-20 mins more if possible, must also thing of others..
If after 10-20 mins, approach him and ask him to keep it down cos your parents and you need sleep at that time.. if he don't want, threaten to call the police... if he say call loh then you call... I doubt this type of people will dare continue after you threaten them..
But remember la, sometimes it's just better to forgive and forget. -
It has nothing to do with tolerance level. It's more of practising common courtesy. Majority of Singaporeans know they should not be making any unnecessary noise after a certain time. But they chose to ignore that, cos they are bloody selfish people. They think just because it is their house they can do what they want but they forgot or as I said chose to ignore that the ceiling, the flooring, the walls are all shared property. In actual fact what they or we owned is the vacuum space we are living in.
Walking I understand, some people have very heavy footsteps and this can't be help but what I can't stand is parents allowing their children to jump from the bed to the floor and playing ball inside the house even after 10pm. Thank goodness my upstair neghbour very chitong one. Very seldom make noise. Even when about to service their aircon unit they will send the contractor down to inform those living below them to close our windows incase the dirty water and dust got into our bedrooms. Hope they don't sell their unit and move away

Yet they believed they are being reasonable in what they are doing. And for your second part, I think you are like, monumentally lucky. Take a look at the replies on this thread, how many of them actually talks about their neighbour above them being zhitong in doing things, i'll say, its minimal.
