Please stick to the topic, thanks! ![]()
the big question is, do we all know how to be good parents?
I believe, ultimately it is the parents' responsibility (not the teachers, not the grandparents) to teach and discipline the children. That's what parenthood is all about afterall, isn't it?
When you have made up the decision to do the teaching and discipline your children yourself, you and your partner need to agree on the method and values. Even if you disagree with the method etc, talk about it but try not to do that in front of the kids as kids know very well how to take advantage of your weaknesses.
It's also important that the grandparents are aware of your intention and the method and values too. This is just to make sure that the kids are not getting conflicting messages on rights and wrongs.
When kids are young, they are just like a piece of white paper. What kind of a person the kid is going to grow up to be, very much depends on the example and values the adults set for them. You're like the author of their lives - once things are learnt, it can't be reversed.
That's a big responsibility but we can also take it as a challenge too.....

i fully agree with your opinion.
in some way, i see raising a child as a project no different from what we do at the office. we should have an objective - meaning, what is it you want to achieve with this child? this will set the tone to how the next part of the journey goes. unfortunately, not many parents realise this. they have a child and then allow the child to freefall.
i'd set some objectives when my children were born. i am glad that most of these objectives are met.
my parents played a part in raising them, but i also set the tone for them on how i want my children to be raised, as much as there is a level of pampering, they did not go overboard because they know i will have none of that.
