Though it was raining, Crystal never stopped running. She was disillusioned from the words of the man she loved – Half vampire? Hello? This is totally absurd! If he didn’t want to be with her, he could have told her right in her presence. Why must he go around the bush, trying to evade questions, feelings and most importantly – himself?
Tears kept tickling down her cheeks, as she takes no effort in trying to wipe it away. Crystal was too shocked, too stunnedÂ…
‘Erm… I tell you tomorrow…’
‘Why tomorrow? Tell me now!’
‘I need to prepare first…’
Didn’t he wanted to get her a gift or something so as to appear more sincere when he expressed his feelings? So the preparation he wanted wasn’t a gift – it was an excuse. And it wasn’t a confession of love – it was a rejection using a lame excuse. Within a night, Crystal had complete change of impression in Leo, which hurts her the most when she realised that point. The man whom she had spends her time happily with… all these is ending?
The rain had gradually brewed into a thunderstorm. Flashing and roaring across the night sky – it was as if heaven, too, was displeased with Leo. Crystal finally ran out of breath, she stopped by the roadside and sat by the concrete floor. She doesn’t care getting drenched in the pouring rain; the mental and emotional torment she was undergoing was like a ton of iron on her. Nobody should be rejected in such a manner... nobody should play around people’s feelings… Nobody should…
Suddenly, Crystal felt that the rain is getting lighter on her – someone standing beside her, shielding with an umbrella. Crystal looked up and saw Ray, whose irritable features seemed to have disappeared, leaving a warm, approachable figure.
‘Don’t stand here in the rain Crystal! You will get sick. Come, get into my car.’
‘Well, since you don’t care about me, what for I bother about you? There are someone who obviously care more about me even though he may seemed slightly unappealing, but at least he cares.’
Without a second thought Crystal got into the car. Ray hastily fetched a towel from the car compartment and passed it to her.
‘Lower down the aircon, Joe,’ instructed Ray to his chauffeur, ‘where do you stay Crystal? I happen to come by and saw you sitting in the open all by yourself? Where is Leo? How could he leave you here all by yourself?’
‘Don’t speak about that jerk. I don’t want to go home; He is there. Bring me somewhere else.’
‘Alright…’
CrystalÂ’s unable to control her wild emotions once more, fell into another bout of whimpering. Ray then puts his hands around her, trying to comfort and console.
‘Judging at his cocky appearance, I knew that Leo was a jerk within. He look so flirt… you are better off without him…’
Crystal absorbed nothing of RayÂ’s words as Ray kept blabbering about how lousy Leo was, etc. It was only when the car came to a sudden stop that brought her back to reality.
‘Where is this place?’
‘Don’t worry, its my house. Joe – shelter Crystal into the house.’
Rationally, Crystal shouldn’t enter his house – but her mind is clouded and her womanly instinct couldn’t reach to warn her. She got out of the car and walked into the detached house, the last one at a dead-end road. Like his car, Crystal was expecting nothing less than some grand interior design; it was an understatement. Crystal slumped onto the comfy sofa – her eyes still sore from the crying.
‘So could you like a drink?’ said Ray as he signalled Joe to exit himself.
‘Anything would do,’ replied Crystal, still very affected by Leo’s words. It seemed like a blow she will never recover, critical hit right on her heart. It wasn’t any ordinary sorrow – it was simply devastating.
‘Why do I have to get so emotional over him? He isn’t my boyfriend! Furthermore, he didn’t even come after me when I ran off… haiz…’
Again tears flowed.
‘Have a drink…’
Gulping it, Crystal held onto the rock glass and something caught her eyes… it was the crystal ring that Leo gave. Thinking back all the days when they were together and how happy they were, she couldn’t accept the fact those days are forever gone. Why must things always happen in this way? Many a times, human have no control over their fate – like puppets, whose roles is being manipulated by its master. Do we have the strength to break free? Can we do anything about our dire situation?
Weeping while pondering, Crystal felt that her eyes were getting heavy and is losing focus. Rubbing it, she looked at Ray and had a double vision. She stood up and is unable to balance herself. Danger flashed across her mind, as she sensed something was wrong.
‘What’s was in the drink? You… you… drug the drinks din you?’
