I graduated with a Bachelor in Psychology this year and went on to do a certificate in counselling. Curently, I am furthering in Psychology.
Since then, I have been trying to get into the social services industry to get related job experience. But it seems that everywhere I tried, they come back with the same reply that they want someone with experience. My agony is, how are fresh graduates ever going to get experience when no one is willing to accept fresh graduates?
Any advice?
tried IMH?

Need experience as well.
Don't give up cherrycola! Keep Trying!
We need people like you!
As we do not know what position you actually applied, I do believe some position do need certain amount of experience.
As dealing with people is not not an easy task.
Have you tried the various charitable organisations?
They may not pay well, but they can prove valuable ground for you to gain experience on.

Thanks for the encouragement. Definitely not giving up but it seems that the market is discouraging.

I don't know too many charitable organisations, maybe NKF or KDF or others under the Community Chest?
Another way, though it's indirect, is to work in the org or com you desired, as another position.
Once you build your network, you can help create chance inside the org or com for yourself towards the position you want.
My friend was in the police force when he was doing his degree in psychology in SIM. After his graduation, SPF transfered him into counselling. In the end, he cannot take it and quit psychology totally. From what I heard, it is not easy to be a counsellor. Hence, I guess organisation prefer people with experience.
You can start gaining experience probably from church service ....

I agree that counselling is a very stressful and emotionally taxing job. I am thinking of applying for the patient services position in IMH as a steping stone.

you could try the Police or SCDF...
i think the Police have their Police Psychological Services Division... not sure what the SCDF's version of that is called..
looking at the stresses their officers are going through, i think they really need people for these divisions

I will check them out. Thanks
try special schools? Many are often without a psychologist cos too few want to join in.
I agree with Zaxis though to volunteer first to understand the clients before you interview formally. That might help.
