Hey guys, my first post here. And would like to share my experience with Legionare.
I was in the same situation as you and Dusty23 a few years back.
Year 2000
ENG - C5
MT - B4
Combined Sci (Phy Bio) - C5
E Maths - D7
History - B3
POA - B3
Without maths, the only option available to me was ite.
I retook my maths paper the following year as a private candidate, with the help of tuition, i got B3. Not to mention that I was a sec 5 student doing private O, in all, i spent a total of 6 six years doing my Os. Did banking and finance (ironic huh) and i am now pursuing my bachelor.
You may take a different route from your peers but most importantly is to end up at the same place with them, or even better than them.
so wad did u do while u were waiting to retake ?
Mass Comm is the ideal choice for you but you must retake your O and get less than 10 points. If you scored more than 10 but less than 14, you can try to enroll for a Business courses. Since you dislike Maths, go for the course that has minimum calculation.
For people that are very weak (E8 – F9) in Maths or dislike Maths, Do Not enrolls for Engineering courses. A lot of subjects required calculation de wor. You will vomit blood and die.
just one question, does it means if you enrol in a course now, and concurrently, you retake your O as per in your maths, and you get a better result, can you then change course? technically, you only "waste" one year in the initial course right?
TS, if you want to retake, and judging by your math score, you may need to get help.cause it is not easy being a private candidate, alot of self-discpline.
Some will feel bad and promise to work but then 3mths later, forget all about it.. So you will really need to put down markers if you want to seek this path.
hi guys i am having the same problem,,,, english b3,humanities,b3,chineseb4 ,science e8 maths f9,computer studies,c5 ,cant go anywhere shud i go ite retake or bmc academy ?? cos i wanan work in the day and atennd night evening classes..
Thanks for all the replies guys, it seems that the best route would be for me to appeal to the poly directly about the course I want, and retake my Maths next year.
Does anyone know what way I might go about to appeal to them?
Read your JAE booklet, check out the JPSAE route.
After that consult with your teachers, ask them for advice and the appeals.
Call up the Poly or e-mail them for advice too.
All the best.
to wrigley, if u are refering to me. i studied in a private school while waiting for my resit. and at the same time, i did some part time work here and there to pay for my expenses and tuition fees.
why private sch? because i had to defer my ns liability and i didnt feel like going back to my sec sch to repeat.
to legionare, i hope u dun pin to much hope on appeal (sorry to burst ur bubble) unless u have a very good reason such as outstanding cca records. but no harm trying. wld be good if u can send in hardcopy by mail to show ur sincerity.
my two cents, dun apply for the sake for wanting to get a place in poly. i have friends who did as poor as me during Os and opted for doing nursing, only to drop out later.
i'd be glad to give advices since i have been thru the same shit and i understand how it feels.

2007 score
ENG- B4
MT- B3
Combined Sci (Phy Chem)- D7
E – Maths- D7
Geography – C5
Combined Humans – D7I went to ITE College East in 2008, while retaking my Os ( 3 Sub ). Self studied, No tuition what so ever. I put most of my time in my Maths. Science is almost last min. Geography no study at all, due to syllabus change. Purely according to my experience last time.
This year O lvl score.
ENG – B4
MT – B3
Combined Sci – B3
E- Maths – B3
Geography – B3I admit that the score is not fantastic, but hey, i need to spend time on my ITE subjects too. I’m really glad that i made it this year. I’m going to quit my ITE and advance to Polytechnic this year.
Btw, i’m a Sec 5 student, My age is already 19 already( Just pass B’dae ). If you happen to be in a Express Stream, Just treat it as you are a Academic student and retake it once more.
If you are Sec 5 student, Choosing my path or go to a private school is your best bet.
Never ever give up. Even if you take a slower route compared to others. I believe that failing my O levels in 2007 is a wake up call for me. To shrug off that “Bo Chup” attitude of mine.
Good luck to you.
Nice one.U did inspire ppl hu had to retake O levels due to screwing up subjects like EL,Maths
TS-Jy in wateva u do.
