My results were out. I didn't make it to J2. I really ain't sure what to do now.
People were telling me that it is okay to retain another year in the JC. Another commented that i should go to a polytechnic.
I am worried, scared and dumbfounded now. I am not sure of my future. I don't wanna get retained. My class is the bottom few classes in the cohort and if i retain, i will get to see most of my peers again. lol
What should i do now?
your choice..
if you choose to do the year again, take this month or so to do some analysing on where you messed up.. talk to counsellers if you have to.. check your study technique and your time management...
if you choose to go to the polytechnic, it's a whole new ballgame.. you are not spoonfed so much as the JCs.. you are expected to do a lot of things yourself as you are considered a "tertiary student" and not a secondary student... and also see above.. analyse what you did wrongly..
whatever it is, stay in school..
this could be a wake-up call which you get a second chance at.. in life, you rarely get such a chance... grab it.. and don't bother about "seeing your peers" and all that shit.. that's trivial compared to your education...
good luck

Do u enjoy and think u can cope well in the JC environment? If u do not like it or can't manage it well, no point retaking another year. Poly is a totally different environment. Alot less stress but it does requires abit more pushing on ur own since the lecturers won't push u that much but most poly students are able to cope well and still have a very enjoyable poly life.

Hi Chipperboy,
The first thing you should ask yourself is that whether you are coping with JC syllabus or not. If you find that such a learning environment is not suitable for you, you may want to switch over to a poly instead.
Going to a poly need not be a bad thing, as you can read from my post on this thread:
http://www.sgforums.com/forums/12/topics/379810
Do note that as dkcx mentioned, poly life will be more autonomous.
Cheers.

If i retain,
I feel that i will be able to catch up or even master some subjects because i have more experience. Due to the fact that i will have no PW and Chinese next year, during the spare periods, i could even continue to do revisions for my H2 and H1 subjects.
Just to let you know, Poly students are wild and sometimes being unfair to some extent. JC students know what is the time to study and what is the time to play.

I don't understand what you meant by being unfair to some extent when they are wild.

When in poly, there will be a bunch of people who loves to harass any innocent bystander. There's this scandal when a girl's best friend betrayed her by taking upskirt photos of her and spreading it around.

That what did the another girl do to solve this problem?
ignore all that rubbish going on around you..
what you need to do is to concentrate on your studies..
go ahead and make friends but manage your time well enough so that you have enough time for both studies and friends.. because both will enhance the other..
where there is time for friends will help you take your mind off your studies and this actually helps you concentrate better.. you just need (i repeat myself again) to manage your time
focus on the tasks at hand.. which is to do well for your studies..
good luck!

She suffered alot and had to ignore it to kill the time. Just retain another year in JC, work on your weaknesses and I'm sure that you can do it, and after A lvls, go to Uni and get a degree as this is the fastest path.
What do you mean by getting to see most of your peers again, you have a problem with them or something ?

It is embarrassing to see your peers perhaps in the same class as you next year. The statistics are quite daunting because almost 1/2 of my class could not make it for next year. In fact, many are still under consideration.
Moreover, i do not have good relationships with my peers. Regreted but can't be helped.

Then all the more you guys should work together and go to JC2.
Its time for a change.
Welcome to Poly. ![]()

Hi Chipperboy,
Since you have faith that you will be able to do well by staying for another year, I wish you the best, and encourage you to work even harder for the coming year.
Cheers.

What is it that you truly want to do?
Study alot because you do not want to disobey your parents?
Study so that you can earn alot of money?
Study so that you can fulfill your dream occupation?
Study because that's what everyone else is doing around you and you are afraid to lose out to them?
Study because that's the only thing you know and you're not confident to take control to steer your own life?
You could try to apply to go NS first and you can take your time to decide what exactly do you want to do and do that after your NS.
Really speaking, MONEY is all you need to buy respect from others and make your loved ones proud of you.
Back when the nation is still under-developed, education is indeed a ticket to a better future because everyone around you is dumb and stupid and they can't hold an arguement against you.
At present, when the nation is already developed and the people are all well-educated and feeling restless, you will find arguements can be ignited even from peanuts issues. It's not because these people are dumb and stupid, but because they are lost and without an objective/dream/ambition/passion in their lives.
If I were a parent, I would ensure my child has sufficient education as her foundation and it's all up to her to decide what she wishes to do for her future. Dreams will never come true unless you have a dream first.
What is your dream? Is your dream really to follow everyone else in this Singapore rat-race? Or do you DARE to run your own marathon of conviction?
Time will never move backwards, regrets will never make you feel better in the future, following everyone else may be a lack of confidence move but it doesn't guarantee you with your own unique destiny, it will only bring you towards the common destinies like everyone else.
Choose your next step wisely and take deliberate time and moments to consider before you decide your life. Make sure this decision of yours is made truly on your own and not under the influence or advice from someone wiser, because nobody can be genuinely wiser for another unless they have placed their heart and soul into it.

I study in a Junior College because i always dream of getting a degree and this is the shortest path to help me achieve my goal.
However, polytechnic does provide a route to local universities as well. It is just that the path is small and hard to enter.
What would you advise me to do?

Stay in Junior College and realise your dream as soon as possible.
Repeating one year in your Junior College will help to remind yourself NEVER to surrender to all the distractions in your life again
It's a small setback and sacrifice you had to pay to learn how to become more focused towards your dream in your future.
I hope you'll do your best and be happier. ![]()

isn't it obvious, choose the JC. JC can safely obtain a uni for you to study after A lvl provided you score well enough. For poly, i think only the top percentage gets to go to Uni ?
I got a junior who went to JC, failed his promos, retained another yr and still failed. After that he gave up on JC, went to poly and hes doing great there, final year and his GPA is gives him a very good chance of local uni.
Its a case of whether you can really find something that suits ur way of studying. I've known a number of cases of ppl who quit JC after 1 yr and they excel in poly where the environment is more suited to their style of learning.

Are you joking? He did not manage to even get through for the second round...
I heard that schools would most probably give these sort of students a second chance via re-examination or straight promote (close one eye)
