got this embarassing problem and i only found out recently when i went KTV with my friends...
was singing song at ktv one day then suddenly thought of recording myself on my handphone....
played back and realise that i sound like $h|t.. sing song machiam like talking like that...
really pai seh leh...
some more sing til so "wu sey"
really pity my firends who go ktv with me....

I think it is a matter of you never hearing what you actually sound like.. what you hear is the vibrations that happen in your head.
In order to have a proper tune, can try recording yourself and then making adjustments slowly.. or get one of those doohickies which send what is picked up in a microphone back to a set of headphones... -
I remember my fren (male) sing "My heart will goes on" by Celine Dion... His singing oredi cannot make it, I added backgnd effects... He half wae singing, I croaked, "Jack! I'm falling! I'm falling!" After some time... I croaked again, "Jack! I'm sinking! I"m sinking!"
When we playback da mini tape recorder & heard our "singing" PENGZ all da wae... -

cover one of ya ears while you're singing...not whole palm over ear but use finger to "press" a part of your ear over the earhole... -
