first degree ? means the person already graduated from a uni? since like that why still go for a diploma ?
cos usually a graduate diploma modules are shorter in duration than a diploma. the person may not want to study for MBA or masters mah. so choose to study a grad dip lor.
oh then what type of people are qualified to take the PGD ?
degree is now the basic respect for a civilian ...diploma is the kinder-child
then now still like so many people with just diplomas.....
PGDip is also a precursor towards Masters

Studying Diploma takes 3yrs..$6,000++(correct me if i'm wrong)
Professional Graduate Diploma takes 3-6months ..$6K and above depending on your choice of course..
Example:
Diploma graduate students name: John Chen Xian Long (general academic qualification)
Professional grduate student name: John Chen Xian Long, CPA, CFA (professional academic + certification)
those are the advantage that immediately tells others that you are a certified specialist in wealth manager or whatever graduate diploma course you completed..
this what what you can print on your name card, look at Insurance and Financial advisors namecards, i'm sure they will have all theses...
why waste years of times when you can go pro in the shortest time possible?
There is no right or wrong answer in life.
It's just how you feel you should live your life.
If you think diploma is enough, by all means stop at diploma.
If you think degree is needed, by all means go pursue the degree.
