For those who don't know me, I am a Singaporean who over the years been transferred to various working locations in the SEA region. I worked in Bangkok for 2 years, and I am now in the Malaysian branch for 1.5 years running now. Recently the head office in S'pore offered me a place in Australia.
This is really good opportunity for me because I was really sick and tired of working in the Malaysian branch. I am not racist but truly enough the way the Malays work have been utterly uncooperative and they have a huge attitude problem. I have been facing problems in trying to solve logistical breakdowns due to their attitude problem and lack of inititiative in their work. Not able to fulfill my KPIs I get the blame.
So I am mulling over this transfer to Aust and thinking whether if it would be a great idea. I hv heard that some Aust may have this kind of attitude problem so I just want to ask if there is anybody who have worked there, how are the working attitude like?
Moreover, I have to consider my sabahan girlfren. If I were to go over there on a working VISA sponsored by my employer, how do I bring her along? Can she qualify as my De-Facto partner? what requirements do I need to prove that she is my De-facto partner?
I know the grass is not greenier on the other side but its more grenier than the shitty working culture in Malaysia. You have no idea how horrible their working attitude is, they just cohort with each other to make your life difficult. They collude and help each other to sabotage the work. Its like managing a kindergarden full of adult miscreants.
Different companies got different terms and conditions, if you are a talented person, I believe your partner can get a 3month to a year visa depend on the Aust immigration policy. Since you have decided to leave malaysia for Aust, go ahead, aust should offer higher oversea compensation than malaysia.
Oversea expatriate who came here as senior mgt get full boarding, car, if available, and family or partner can also come along, but no working for them.
Hi,
I believe, as much as possible try to take up the transfer, regardless of what happen with your girlfriend.
Unless if she is very special.
Then it is more complicated.
Should move aboard for more experiences and on Expat Terms !!
Also a good future resume !
take it......it is your exposure that add value to your career.
hmmmm....complicated.....australians are bad in organising stuff ...maybe its in this hillbilly town im in.....in fact most of industries i have seen so far in this oz town looks more like a joke as compared to singapore mnc and family owned.
aussies i know are somewhat similar to the malaysians in that they tend to give difficcult jobs to foreigners and some are very violent at werk...even wilder than a texan high on marijuana and cocaine at the same time.perhaps its the defects that came along with the very first foreigners from england when they discovered australia.they tend to be much more violent.kevin rudd the ex prime minister who had ancestors who were criminals from england yelled one time at a female airforce stewardess in an airforce australian passenger aircraft.the reason being food was not provided.
australians i know are not very friendly when u enter their workplace,,,,they love playing monopoly.
MONOPOLY IS THEIR GAME AT WERK. ....they have no ethics unless u werk in a aussie place thats surrounded by asians.thats the sad fact bout australia....they tend to play monopoly games at werk more than they really do constructive werk.
and when u accomplish something even in front of many witnesses yer aussie colleague would take over yer werk and says he knows all yer werk even though he has been unable to solve the same problem for the last 2 years .meanwhile expect them everyday at werk to be talking a long time with other people, not introducing u to systems, hiding information from you etc etc....usual nonsense that creates a unprogressive dfangerous enviroment.
thats my experience so far in oz...it could be different in your case.
$$$ should be around $55-$60k/year salary as stapiulated from oz immigration miminum work wage.
tell me how it werks out over there.
your werk u told me some time ago should be easier as most aussies dunno wat on earth is iso even.
try DIAC immigration website.defacto is mainly used when a person is already a pr or citizen in oz....low chance of her joinin u unless she wants to wait for u .changes in policies happen every month in the department.
oz is currently facing housing shortages or accomadation shortage as it was since 1990s,,,so u might wanna see how it goes for u.if u do love her that much........im afraid i cant think of a solution after what happened to some guy who used his passport from holland to come back to spore after failing to do his spore national service.

Don't expect too much from the Ozzies. I think the experience might be more or less the same, depending on where you are posted too
From what I understand from my husband all they do everyday is stand around and drink coffee and smoke at his work place and not work at all.
Just so you know if you are there as Management, the unions in Australia are very very strong and you really don't want upsetting them.
Oh yeah one thing about the Ozzies is that I think they all suffer from verbal diarrhoea; They cannot stop talking. They perceive you as unfriendly if you don't engage in the meaningless prattle they indulge in eg. "How is your day? It's fine weather today isn't it ...I picked up xxxxxxx over the weekend and blah blah blah blah" .
The Ozzies are also tightening their import of FTs so I'm not sure if your GF will qualify for anything. Anyway, maybe you should consider how long you are there. She can just drop by to visit. Personally I think a long distance relationship will work if there is strong mutual trust between the 2 of you and that she is very independent.

The posting is to Sydney. I hope no hillbillies there. Last time when i was in Bangkok, my Australian boss is quite hardworking and he is a good organizer. This gave me the impression that Aussies can work. But I am surprise to hear from you that it is otherwise. Terminator Hitman....you still working in Aust or are you back? If the situation there is not good, why you still want to work there and not come back?
Yes, I am not surprise they can be violent especially the Aussie labourers, because they are so big size. Sad to hear that they play Monopoly. Perhaps the problem is worldwide. The malays play monopoly but they are not violent, good thing they don't beat people up.
I am not very sure yet. But there is 60% chance i say no, sighhhhh, because my gf probably wouldn't qualify for VISA. I would want to register marriage ASAP but aiseh, my father want proper wedding dinner and tea ceremony first....sighhhhh
So I have to start saving money. How nice if wedding can be a simple marriage in Las Vegas, just few friends and family. But now have to book big big hotel, invite half the people strangers (mostly father and mother friends).

No lar, she won't qualify, sighh, she is only a marketing grad in Malaysia. Looks like I have to wave the offer. I do not like LDR, never work for me and for her. Tigthening FTs? My cousin just got his PR last week.
I hv handled unions in malaysia, frankly it is not the union problem, it is more the people problem stemming from Malaysia govt policies. I am in logistics so as long as the quality problem from union strikes don't come to my warehouse, then I am fine.
hugh,
im in oz and entire family is here...so goin back to spore is meaningless although i do have a house i in spore but sibling seems to think everything belongs to her now...so im not really wanted in spore even though the house is partly mine..didnt have any future in spore in past ...not even a car.over here at least i can have 2 cars..all in good condition similar to spore cars and dirt cheap...giveaway...no dents good paint etc.
the australian u saw in bangkok is one of the rare few.aussie engineers, labourers, educated ,supervisors are mainly what ive described.violent and somehow treat u like a cattle.violent dun mean using fist...it could mean threats, making mischief and all those monkey games.even aussie chiobu gals play the monolpoly game .i dun play well with monkeys and ape-like engineers who look like hulk hogan.in fact engineer in oz are bigger sized than labourers...most of the labourers are from vietnam, south korea and asian countries.
in fact i find the semi professionals in oz are less violent than the professionals.dun be surprised that most guys with tattos, vietnamese illiterate labour types know the meaning of humanity as compared to some engineer or other aussie professional built like hulk hogan.its the culture thing i guess.i assure u the reason why they get tech asians from india is because the aussie hulk hogan engineer only knows how to tighten nuts n bolts.
only violent people would be tech people in oz.more like gangs.even the australian navy commander abandoned his technical crew in spore because they were sexually harrasing his other crew members.once they find they are indispensable..they would climb on yer head almost immediately irregardless if u are the chief or boss.
perhaps your relative who got his pr has better luck than me so dont let my experience scare u.....

5) Subordinate loyalty to boss (If he is Asian and subordinate is not Union member) (1-5)
6) level of sexual harassment towards men (1-5)

9) Are Aussies very strict with work mistakes? They like to blame people?
Living standards in Australia
1) How safe do you feel when you walk in the streets at 10pm at night alone? (1-5)
2) Are Aussies honest when you drop your wallet on the floor (return back to you) ? (1-5)
3) Have you ever been mug or threatened by racist in Aussie land? Please describe the incident.

Australia is a Christian nation.Their type of Christianity is much different than our local ones which are phonies.Their religion is real and hardcore.
THEY HAVE JEHOVAHS witness next to where i live..is dat hardcore???do they serve kfc chicken like in america??im not the religious type.
one thing i hate most about australia is their barbers!!!those people cant cut and give you a decent haircut.....when u ask them to cut the back shorter as in spore they say..,.thats short enough!!!!siao so long like i need to go back after 3 weeks again.
all of them unite to give people a haircut which is long.....poor quality as compared to normal sporean barber.im still trying to get a better barber.

That is already half hardcore but not the real hardcore. You need to venture deeper to find them. Here: www.jesus-is-savior.com
u mean they have those american type religious village where hundreds of female followers gets impregnated by a religious cult leader??

Terminator,
Since you hate Australia so much, why don't you come back? I am thinking of coming back when i get married, sick and tired of the way those lazy Malaysians work.
