I USED to do that back during my poly days for my projects... Too many VERSIONS liao... TOO CONFUSING...Originally posted by Parka:

if it is msword, change your auto-save options ...
MSWORD 2000, Tools > Options > Save > Save Auto Recover Info Every ....
set this option to be 1 min ....
if your pc hangs, right after the reboot, open up msword WITHOUT opening any other documents (just msword itself). you should be able to find your document there .....
but, as with all ms products, reliability has never really been a strong point, so, caution ..... this may fail at times. better than nothing though ... -

There is those autosave feature that u can activate so that it will save your work without u doing it manually every x number of minutes
