If it's me..i would borrow $100 dollars first, then return on time. Next time, borrow $200 dollars, then dun use, return that fren. Then borrow $600, when he sms me, ask him who are u :p
No honestly speaking, my frens always return me money on time. You should be glad it's only $500. $500 in exchange for true colors. Sometimes, people have to pay their whole fortune for true colors..so you should follow my rule of thumb:

about 2 years ago, i lend $500 to a gal for her to take see some specialist about her head.. complain sometimes she get blackout...
but till now i never ask her for repayment.. i take it more like a favour for a frn.. that time i can spare the $500(but not a lot of saving still), thus why not give a helping hand..
but it still depends on whether the person you are helping is worth helping or not.. if you already identified that he/she is not worth helping(eg: uncontactable after taking the $), dun even lend $ in the first place lor... -
