Perhaps in the meantime, one has walked into these two paths but there's always a chance you'll walked into the third path that'll lead you to happiness? -

Both methods have been tried and tested by me.
In the past, I chose to be with someone who loves me and initiated a relationship with me. After 4 years, we broke up because I could never love her the way I wanted to.
Now, I choose to be with someone I love. Even after a big incident caused by me, we are still back together and stronger. It's even less than a year but we are already planning to get engaged this year and get married the next.
My conclusion: I'd rather choose to love someone and face rejection and learn the value of life from something that I chose to do. I'd never want to be with someone I have no feelings for no matter how good that person is because in the end, I learn nothing about love.
To love someone and being loved naturally by that someone, whether together or not, is the ultimate happiness.
To be loved by someone and be with that person without loving that person is very selfish because you can never love the person totally and absolutely the way he/she wants you to, no matter how you open your mouth to convince the person and yourself. -
Tink e question's better rephrase as:
"Loving the wrong person vs. loved by the wrong person"
2 more ways out:
"Loving e right person and loved by the right person"
