a few female colleague whom visited the company doctor for common cough & flu. They disclose that the (male) doctor would ask them to remove their bra before using his stethoscope... on pretext that the bra would obstruct the instruction.
Of course not stripe in front of him & with their blouse on, just bra-less during the examination....

U'R DEAD WRONG, in his examination, he has the right to ask for u to remove ur top. Dun u use the word "STOOP". It is part and parcel of the physical examination, not that we want u to strip. In fact, the more thorough ones will ask u to remove to listen carefully. It is coz of some females being uncomfortable that GPs just do it quickly, anything refer to specialist. We do not want to be accused of anything even though it may not be true. -

Yes, every male doctor will need to have a female nurse or amah in the room as chaperone during examination of a female patient. That's why sometimes there is a long queue waiting outside in the polyclinic if there are not enough student nurses or amahs to act as chaperone. Just listening to the lungs from the back is not sufficient. You can miss abnormal heart beats and murmurs, which may render you liable in a negligence suit later if you fail to pick up a serious condition as a result. Of course many doctors take short cuts and record heart sounds normal when he cannot properly listen to them from the back. I always auscultate from front and back, but on the bed, with the patient lying down and sitting up to make sure I pick up all the murmurs. Of course I take longer for each patient but I believe in going by the book...protect my backside also...
Actually some male doctors in polyclinics would be very happy if female patients are not comfortable seeing them. They would have the perfect excuse to send all these patients to their female colleagues and do less work
