  I suppose the best way to answer this question is the weightage. I myself have many female friends, ranging from pretty ones to ugly ones.
  
  I would put a 70%-30% weightage on looks. Cos I am no pretty boy myself.

  for those below average gals(no offence), it mostly our classmate or something like that then we gotta noe them.who will go up to a 'cui' gal for contact?

  I think, a strong friendship should not allow silly things like other people speculating and gossiping to interfere.
