14 days after (the beginning) menstruation is ovulation. assuming that menstraution lasts 6 days, and u say it's safe 8 days after her period ends, that makes it the 14th day. the egg is travelling down the tubes by then and sperm can stay alive in there for 3 days. that is the WORST time to have sex to avoid pregnancy.

actually, if one has a regular sex partner.. i mean like ur gf /bf, then it is ok to use other types of contraception.
condom is a common type of contraception, widely available, and besides preventing pregnancy (about up to 75% effective), it also helps to prevents sex disease e.g std etc.
but if you have a regular sex partner and you do not engaged in sex with other people, other than your bf or gf, it is advisable for the ger to take contraception pills or injection. it is about 100% effective. But it does not prevent sex disease.
