simply put: ns was not suggested by our own ministers right in the beginning. an overseas consultant suggested it to us during our nation building years, and our government took this up reluctantly.
singapore is not the only country wif ns. there are alot of countries before us, israel and taiwan being the best examples. without ns constituting the bulk of their armed forces, i wonder wat would the geopolitical scene b like now. even malaysia has begun its own version of ns, albeit with a different objective now. but tt is not to say the objective will not change in future.
with security do u think we can prosper?
if tt is not the kind of sacrifice u r willing or able to make den i suggest u migrate to someplace where they haf sufficient population to rely solely on the regular army to defend the country. -

I am not against NS at all. I am just saying that it should be applied equally towards males and females and there should be massive compensation for this type of sacrifice.

I don't see what's wrong with complaining per se, as it can be a form of fighting for improvement. We also complain mah, not only him. We complain why oral sex is illegal, do I have to tell you some countries do not have luxury of condoms and cannot enjoy sex safely? Sorry, this is a false dilemma. It's not we either have or don't have scenario. No national service doesn't mean we "does not have any army at all". And I betcha some people still want to sign on army; maybe more people, since all are volunteers and less people will speak ill about the army.

You fail to see the big picture. Who say that NS has to be tough training? A modified BMT for females is possible, to teach them the fundamentals of combat, so that they can defend themselves and the kids during FIBUA. ppl who completed army usually get more pay than those who never go army isn't it?
Of course la ... the guys are already 2 years behind their female counterparts who graduated first and find work first, hence earning more than the guys (2 years pay difference).
Moreover, NS is seen as some sort of work experience, so it's justified that the *starting* pay is higher. -

[i]tat was nt professional enough... if you read history correctly... most of the soldiers were nt trained in jungle warfare and tat's y they lost to the Japanese so badly...
