good & bad....wasting 2.5 year of your time learning something very usefully, good military knowledge & skills that cannot be learnt in normal school. Gearing your to be a tuff-man, survive in god-forgotten places. Instil good discipline, respect self & fellow soldiers. good values like patriotism and loyalty to the country.
which not applicable in real life......

The training part takes less than a year then after that u work as cheap labour for them for the next 1-2 years,fair? Anyone thinks that doing national Servive is really a waste of time and youth ? I personally thinks selling Nasi Lemak is better than wasting my time in the camp . Pls vote

My guess is depending on what rank r u & which camp/unit u r in, whether u r being served nasi lemak or u r serving nasi lemak at the cook house. For some lucky 1s, after NS may be can become Major or even General, so like that where got waste time, right
Anyway talking cock also waste of time wat, but many still like it leh, so it all depends on the situation & individual.

Sigh, ever since Mel Carter came, this topic got no end.
How can one compare NSFs with Bangladeshi workers in terms of pay? This is National Service, defence of a nation, not working for monthly pay. We are talking about survival of our nation, so that we wont be treated like second class citizens like what is happenning elsewhere. We are talking about about different tasks, different needs and different environment.
Complain all you want about about officers and crappy Mindef policies, I will agree with you, but National Service as a nation policy forms the backbone of our survival. This is a different matter altogether. -
Do you all honestly think that Singapore will win a war even with NSFs? Juz one submarine and some high tech plane that cost billions and they make a big fuss over it. It's only ONE!!! WOW!!! IMPRESSIVE!!! We can win every war from now on. NSFs will defend Singapore, do not forget that we have lots of scholars will cannot wait to study and stay in another countries but surely they will come back to fight for our country right? And we now have the NEWATER PLANT, we will have enough water once that desalination plant is completed. Not to mention hydroponics farm that will provide us healthlty food for a long long time.
