It should be optional for both boys and girls to do NS, full scale military and not just that nursing crap. That way there is a larger pool of potential recruits than at the moment where only boys are allowed. That will relieve the pressure on only having males defend the country. I mean, what if Singapore is attacked and all the males are dead, who is going to defend the country then? Aiya, I think you only got the right to complain if you have been through all these shit. 75% of all mothers'son who havent been through NS say they wanna do away wif NS.
But seriously, through the course of NS, its not really much of character building. I feel like I've been much more slacky after NS. Got chance to loaf then grab the chance to loaf away. But well, you DO learn other stuff nontheless, not very useful in real life though

Haha... am looking into more tax incentives like a SRS account... but kinda leh chey of setting one up. for me if u ask mi to keng NS and do some clerk job, i rather go chiong sua..
wasting 2.5 years liao and imagine doing paper work everyday, for mi i rather chiong sua better... at least learn smthing new and can beef up body abit... -

Most of the most advanced and civilised countries in the world have done away with forced conscription, which is a throwback to the dark ages. Singapore is still a long way to being truly civilised. I should have been clearer. What I meant is to have a professional military rather than a forced conscript one. Like the US. Raising salaries and other incentives will take care of any lack of supply.
